when we had our twins, we ended up with two boys, the leftover girl names were Dharma and Lake. Of all four names we picked out Lake was my favorite, and i am bummed i will never get to use it.

And i am sure we are done, twins will teach you the lesson that 2 is just the right number.

Ha! My parents named me Katie because they knew they would never call me Katherine. I'm named after someone's grandma that I never met (maybe my mom's maternal grandma, but I forget).

I wish my parents had gone with Katie instead of Katherine. My mom says she always wanted a little girl named Katie, and then everyone in my family called me Kate.

I have a friend named Kate who hates that she has to use the name Catherine for all of the official uses when she has never been called anything but Kate.

My brother and his wife officially named their kids Kate and Jack for just that reason. Ironically, other brother later called his kids Catherine and John (seriously? are there not enough names to go around?) and that is what they are called.

ETA: maybe that's not ironic, just annoying to me

I am whole heartedly against naming someone something you don't attend to call them. Pet names are fine if they arrise spontaneously (i never considered naming my son tootie, but I call him tootie most of the time).

I have a niece named katherine who has always gone by kate or katie. Why bother with the Katherine?!

If Henry had been a girl his name would have been Eleanor Henry and if Zelda were a boy she would have been Loudon Elwood.

I know a couple who gave both their kids names that they have never once been called. Their daughter is Lena Clark and has been LC ("Elsie") since birth. Their son is Phelps Burgess, but everyone calls him Jesse. I don't know why they didn't just use the nicknames as names, except they're kind of fancy so maybe they figure the full names will be useful when the kids are older?

Sydney and Brodie were our favorites for Maxwell, but when he arrived, he named himself. I had Maxwell picked as a favorite, but nobody else liked it. After he had settled in after his birth, I asked him which name was his and he so positively responded to Maxwell, that Maxwell it was. Henry is his middle name, as he was born on my Dad's birthday and Henry is my Dad's middle name. Thus, the name Maxwell Henry was born...and it was good!

I'm glad I didn't end up a Mariah.

What you should be glad about is that they hadn't watched Psycho instead.

Then I would have been what? Marion? Or what was her sister's name? Lila or Leila or something. I think it's cool I was named after a Hitchcock film, sort of laid the foundation for my little goth self.

No, I mean they would have named her Psycho.

I sure ain't pregnant, but I like to fantasize about these sort of things. My top picks for baby names are Mila Faye for a girl, and Salem, Owen (unless it becomes too popular in the future), Eden, or Lake for a boy. My boyfriend's name is Asa and that's probably the prettiest sounding male name to me, but I obviously wouldn't use it for my kid because of the association/confusion.

Walter could have been an Arthur, but I think we made the right choice.

I looove the name Arthur. I also love the name Walter. Both got DQ'd for us due to knowing people with the names who we didn't necessarily want to name our kid after.

Owen is surprisingly popular. It's another of my favorites. I'm really pleased that one of our best baby friends is named Owen... almost as good as getting to use it for my kid. (Solipsistnation didn't want to name the Emperor Owen because he said that Owen sounds like a fat farmer.)

Aw, Arthur! One of the ladies in my Bradley class has a son named Arthur who's like seventeen. Every time she mentions him I'm like, "That's such a good name!"

Ooh, I like Asa! I'm sure it would get vetoed by the Mr. though.

I know, it really is a nice name. It's a shame I can't use it now that I know someone very close to me who has that name. Darn! That leaves my top boy and girl names to Eden and Mila Faye, respectively, should I ever adopt. But that's just my fantasy right now. I don't belong in this forum!

And I can't even imagine how frustrating it would be to settle on a name with your spouse, should you have one. I know the names I picked out are already held pretty dear to my heart (I know, I know), and it would hurt me to get shut down. I'm silly like that.

I don't have any leftovers, but my sister does. They have three girls and their leftovers (and the names they chose) have gotten more unique each time. The first was Nicole, then Isabelle or Sirinda, and the last could have been Zara. The boy's name they've always had is Kobi Miles. Just no boy yet.

I love old names like Felix and Oliver. For girls my names are all really Scandinavian, like Cecelia or Birgit.

I like Zara! It's like the clothing store, but it's still pretty. I also like Felix and Oliver.

For my son I was considering Monroe or Jack. We went with Jordan. My daughter's name was going to be Annie or a variation of, after her aunt who passed away just after birth. We named her Ania.

My mother deserves some serious slapping around for naming my sister and I like she did. I am Falicia Marie, my sister is Alisha Marie. There was going to be a Letisia Marie until my grandmother intervened and my youngest sister was name Samantha.

Naming little people is really hard.

we didn't know gender or multiples til we were 5 months pregnant, and we basically fought the whole time.

we needed names that would work in multiple languages and the successful contenders were
Gabriela Kei (homage to my mother Kay)
and
Carolina Ai (my mother Eileen)

Husband nearly died of frustration because he wanted the firstborn named after his dead sister
Valkyria Sachiko (two of my least favorite names in the world, bless her heart)

For the boys' names i was intent on using irish names but now i thank god we didn't, in brazil the poor kids would be screwed.

i liked
eamon toshio (homage to my dad tom and grandfather-in-law yoshio)
and
brendan eiji

My mom wanted to name me Stevie, but my dad wasn't having it. He wanted Courtney, but my mom hated the name. They decided on Lindsey. While my mother was in labor she watched The Bionic Woman with Lindsay Wagner. She thought it was a great name, so she named me after the Bionic Woman. I don't know why they chose a different spelling though.

This is one of my favorite names, but I can't bring myself to use it because I fear that so many people would mispronounce it.
