Last night I made sun mac from Isa Does It. I didn't have any onions and my lemons were moldy. (And I just bought them the day before! what the fizzle!) But it tasted fine. I still missed the ingredients though. My son liked it.

Today he had oat meal and half a dark chocolate bar. (Don't ask we need to get to the store) He was eating blueberries but then dumped most of the package on the floor.

For lunch he had soy yogurt and a very little bit of chocolate milk. He hasn't been wanting plant milks lately :/ I will probably make him peas in a little bit

Thank you, butternut. Yeah, I get that things like that are aimed at people who have fewer resources and less education. The family at the table thing is just something I feel guilty about for some reason! But probably not enough to change.

Vacation eating!

Oatmeal with chocolate chips
At a restaurant: she ate a bunch of fruit, half a kid's pizza with Daiya, several bites of my tomato soup, several chunks of my "protein" from my vegan Reuben
Brown rice, edamame, peas, carrot slivers, crapton of nori.
Some skittles and violet candy throughout the day

Sounds like a great vacation! Happy travels Ariann, Mr. A and Malka!

She ate corn tonight! Finally after serving it about five times this summer with only nibbles. I keep getting corn every week in my CSA so I hope this is not a one time thing.

She wouldn't eat my sautéed kale, garlic, and shallots with tamari seasoned black-eyed peas, although she tasted it. Oh well. She did eat plain black-eyed peas. Boatload of strawberries for dessert.

For lunch: leftover refried beans in soft corn tortillas, cucumbers, quinoa tabbouleh, chickpeas, and watermelon

Breakfast: banana, soy milk, a few sips of green smoothie

Snacks: raisins and cashews

Argh, toddler eating. Such a special brand of facepalm.

Lately he has been into:

- chickpea pancakes (chickpea flour whisked with curry powder and water into a thick batter, grated zucchini mixed in, fried for about five minutes on each side over medium heat).
- cold beans mixed with salt and nooch
- chunks of raw tofu
- quinoa and beans with some sort of dressing (the green onion miso dressing from AFR is a hit)
- ALL THE FRUIT, but don't try to predict which fruit it will be on any given day!
- carrots braised with ginger, garlic, and turmeric

I have some chocolate chia seed pudding gelling in the fridge and I think he will like that, but who knows?

Seconding vacation eating! Turns out tiny wu loves tamales. And who wouldn't?
Actually our vacation food is pretty awesome since we can get lots of Mexican food/ingredients and much nicer produce than at home. The heavy-hitters right now are:
tamales--blue corn with squash and corn was a huge hit
green smoothies
green beans, zucchini, corn, potatoes, avocado
mango, raspberries, blackberries, peaches
corn crust empanadas
plantains!

Food for today.

Breakfast. Waffles plain.

Snack: Toasted sesame sticks and apple sauce.

lunch: Soy yogurt and some crackers. I put beet hummus on the crackers but he ate around it :( Also, some Late July peanut butter crackers.

My son is going through a weird stage. He doesn't want food that he has previously loved. I made him peas last night but he threw most of them on the floor. Usually he eats them by the handful! He also wouldn't eat his blue berries. When I made him a lentil rice casserole, he only ate the onions. He loved the pumpkin oat meal cookies from Post Punk Kitchen. (This will probably be the only way I'll be able to get him to eat pumpkin) When I changed his diaper the walnuts didn't quite digest. Also doesn't help that dad keeps spoiling him with these cookies that we bought. I have to hide them!

We had the everyday chickpea salad tonight for dinner. Babynut said, "I want to have this in my lunch tomorrow." And, "Mama, say this is yum yum. Cause it's yum yum. SAY IT!"

Okay then. (She doesn't eat the lettuce)

Babynut has been running a fever this weekend and has little to no appetite. Tonight I made the Harisa soup in IDI and she actually ate it along with noochy broccoli. She asked if she could have the soup for lunch tomorrow so I guess that is a success (after a weekend of failures). I left out the crushed red pepper flakes.

Addie had solids (rice cereal) for the first time yesterday and she LOVED it. We were afraid that it wasn't going to work out and that we'd have to try again in a month or two, but nope. She got the biggest smile on her face and she couldn't stop bouncing and kicking her legs, which made it hard to feed her! I don't know which she liked more, the cereal, or getting fed with a spoon (FINALLY I'M LIKE THE REST OF THE HUMANS!) She was pretty much a natural, and she even tried to grab the spoon and feed herself. Now I can't wait to feed her tonight, and I hope we'll be able to give her something more interesting on Thanksgiving (I have a pouch of organic peaches waiting).

Yay! I bet that was adorable. We've been intentionally introducing some of the foods that will be at Thanksgiving so all the family can ooo and ahh over Jonah.

We did the baby led weaning (no puree) route with our firstborn so this spoon feeding purees is a new experience for me. I find it so cute and fun! We are going to let him have some of the thanksgiving fare tomorrow and I can't wait to see how he likes it! So far he hasn't refused anything - but seemed to like the sweet potatoes and a squash, apple, carrot mixture best.

Yeah, we did purees with Sam, but then I did BLW with Eli. So much easier!

tiny wu has recently decided that her favorite thing to eat is plain chickpeas. This is kind of awesome as it's CHICKPEAS and they now require no preparation, but also led me to the somewhat amazing, somewhat horrifying realization that I'd served my kid chickpeas at every meal yesterday.

breakfast--chickpea flour mini-quiche with pesto, zucchini, red peppers and onions; oatmeal muffin and clementine
lunch--plain chickpeas, rice, avocado, and kale
dinner--falafel, hummus, mango, spinach smoothie

At least she had a banana with PB for a snack, which did not involve chickpeas in any form.

At least it was chickpeas in three different forms.

That sounds so good Scandi!

We had oatmeal with chia seeds and pear for breakfast, PB&J with yogurt as dessert for lunch and home made lower fat banana bread for snack. Dinner was veggie pizza.

I find it hard to do a great job feeding L, because I eat so differently from her. My lunch was a curry carrot risotto with tons of kale and she was Not Having It.
