We've been going back and forth on the Bumbo for awhile. I really could use some sort of baby-holder for while I'm in the shower. Freya's too big for her bouncy seat now (she can touch her head to the floor, which we discovered two days ago :( ). She's only used a Bumbo a couple of times at the playgroup connected with our LLL meeting. I worry too now, that her chubby monkey legs will be uncomfortable. For the toilet-related bathroom fare, she can just sit near me on the bathmat and I'm confident I could avert any catastrophe that emerged. We have an exersaucer type thing in the kitchen that we use once or twice a day, which she loves, but it's way too bulky to haul up the stairs. Plus, I sorta like that it's what she does when I'm doing kitchen stuff that she can't participate in yet....a good routine.

What do you parents of older babies do with them when you're in the shower? Trying to get one in each day before the man leaves for work, but sometimes hard to fit in with change baby/feed baby/nurse baby/pack lunch/other bathroom stuff/ohmygodit'sgarbageday etc.

I don't shower nearly as much as I would like.

Yeah, I totally don't shower very often. I give myself a bird bath in the sink if I have to go out and am starting to get gamey, otherwise, I try to shower when they're asleep, although when they were younger, that got really tricky. Sometimes I'd just bathe with them and try to wash my hair (which I only like to wash twice a week anyway) another time or in the sink or something.

I used a baby bjorn babysitter seat for the longest time, until way past a year. I just put it on the other side of the shower curtain and talked/sang to him. Now I put him in the pack and play or his crib, sometimes with just toys and books, sometimes with my iPad propped up on a table nearby playing mr. Rogers. Once he outgrows those enclosures, I don't know.

If I have to take a shower in the morning before work, I try to sneak out of bed while he's still sleeping. But he usually wakes up halfway through, and then I'm screwed. If I'm proactive, I'll start a tv show and put out a snack on the coffee table which gives me a few more minutes if he does wake up. Weekends are a lot easier, because I can take showers and whatnot while he's napping.

I wait until nap ir bedtime, or exersaucer for a quick shower.

Either my husband watches the baby while I shower or he is the in playzone or jumperoo. Or maybe still sleeping. Sometimes I would have the bouncer outside the shower, but I think he gets bored in the bouncer now, so it doesn't work as well. I must shower. It is the one thing that I still have to do. That and eat. Not optional for me.

Kimba, I really really hate the days I don't shower. More than sleep even, it makes me feel human.

Yeah, totally. Even with all the sleep dep, the worse days were the ones that interfered with showering.

After a certain point where she could sit up well by herself without slumping over at all (maybe 7-8 months?), I followed the PPK suggestion of just throwing her at one end of the shower. This has worked ok ever since (though it was better when we were in combined shower-baths). Most days now I wait until her ~10am nap and have a baby monitor I can hear and see from the shower.

Before she was crawling but old enough to lift her head up, I'd put her on her tummy time mat while I showered. This worked great.. Before that I'd throw her in her vibrating chair. The toughest time was when she could crawl but not quite sit well enough that I felt comfortable throwing her in the bath (so 5.5-7 months?)...
