awesome!

FC is getting a bit nervous- today is her last day of school [we have holidays Thursday and Friday, she could go to school next week, but we leave on Thursday next and we just decided to make the break at the end of May so we have a chance of getting her transcript before we leave. it turns out they only show the first quarter {which ended a few weeks ago} so none of this is getting on teh record anyway. wish I had known that before!!!!]. Yesterday afternoon we went to do the power of attorney and her travel documentation and she kept getting teary.

it's so funny how she alternates little kid behavior with signs of the adult she will/can be. She had 4 hours of math homework yesterday [which is her most frustrating subject] and she sat down and did it, refused to even have dinner til she was done. None of this is getting graded but she felt the need [without a word on my part] to hand it in, and skipping the work wasn't even an option. She made me proud. I wasn't sure for a while there that she had the gumption to do something like that. Glad to see she does.

Wow! Thursday! So soon! I wish we could meet you at Newark and shower you with nooch ;-). Looking forward to seeing you and FC and I hope you all have an easy transition.

ha! i could do with a nooch shower, we are officially using the last of the nooch to make Mac Daddy and i feel like it's going to be a religious moment or something. everything lately is The Last XX and no wonder we're all a bunch of sniveling wrecks.

oh, also, we usually watch Game of Thrones on Tuesday when Mr T goes off to play football, and since there was no GOT this week I decided to indoctrinate FC into the ways of Arrested Development. I am so happy that she loves it as much as I do. We've watched the first 4 or 5 episodes so far. This plus the fact that she loves Third Rock from the Sun also makes me think that everything will eventually be ok.

Wow, so soon torque! Really hoping the move is smooth for you all.

5 more days left of the school year. Things are looking up, so fingers crossed for end-of-term grades.

Wow so soon! I am with 'fulish on the nooch throwing!

Just had the somewhat awkward but cute moment of hearing my daughter crush on lycophyte, who visited a few weeks ago. I quote, "She is hot! I walk up the stairs and am like, damn, she's GORGEOUS."

Two more projects until the end of the year. Will I survive? Only time will tell.

I am looking forward to a break from the "put off doing work and then panic as the deadline approaches" routine.

I'm looking forward to a break from that too, but I keep doing it to myself.

We just got over that hump, Vantine. Looks like we have both survived, but I'll let you know for sure after I see the grades. Hope it goes easily for you guys!

I hear the rest of the FCAT scores should be in on Friday. Can't wait to get that over with. (He did great on his writing at least!)

Well, making out in the hammock tent would be awfully tricky.

I like that the last conversation in this thread is still how hot I am.

I wish all kids had parents as awesome as you guys. I really do.

This week, I finally started getting emails from a parent. I've been writing to him all year with no response. Kid does nothing and is usually semi-obnoxious and lies to my face, often skips class, but all in all, I'd say he is a good natured kid who generally means well. But, he does NOTHING. Smart kid too. Anyway he is failing all his classes and is in severe danger of not graduating. Found out yesterday, dad is responding because relatives want to know when graduation is so they can come. Now that he doesn't want to be embarrassed, he suddenly cares about his kid's failing grades.

I'm so sad and disgusted. Parent basically admitted this is his motivation in an email and during a phone conversation to another teacher.

You guys, hug your kid twice tonight so they have an extra for the kid that doesn't.

Having spent the last week at several school functions... too many parents seem to have that view of their kids. That the are accessories and better not embarrass the parent.

wheee hee leaving tomorrow and we've done so well but it was inevitable- freakout yelling match in the car.

[and got the transcript: final quarter grades included 2 50s, one 60, and the rest were 70s. ugh. she maintains these are "not bad" and that my expectations are cruelly high. i can't WAIT to have some backup.]

So excited for you guys to have a fresh start, torque! Here's hoping things get easier!

Middle School ended today! GLORIOUS. And about 15 minutes before the end of day, Shae managed to get his last low grade changed from a D to a B. I always imagine these grade changes to take place with Clueless style negotiations.

Now if only we were looking at a long, lazy summer instead of a million soccer practices and tons of volunteer hours.

The lazy days aren't so hot, either. We seem to experience a lot of stress because of those lazy, unstructured days. We, meaning we parents.

True. Shae used to do lazy days really well, but the last year or so he's so used to being busy that he is lost at home. I, however, am a real pro at lazy.

Year is over! He managed all A's save one B in gym during one grading period. All we have planned for the summer is drum lessons and a water park. (And killing things in video games...)
