I feel your pain Kelly. 2 out of 3 of mine are officially taller now. The twelve year old will have me beat by the end of the summer I predict and then I am toast.

My 16 year old refuses to take hers. She won't even let me teach her to drive. Her brother couldn't wait.

In less then two months I will have only teenagers. 19, 16, and 13.

I am pretty sure Henry has entered the world
Of wanting girls attention. Haircut, workin out,
looking at himself in the mirror after workouts,
grooming himself for a lot longer before
school, etc.

I'm not ready for this part of his life to begin
He's only 12.

The Toby asked for all plain t-shirts next year. He told me that when he wears shirts with things on them like video games, etc. people stop him in the hall to read them. That is apparently really annoying and sets off his anxiety.

At least it won't cost a fortune to buy school clothing...

This made me chuckle. Thanks. Have to laugh through
the "rough" parts.

Lately there have been more moments
of Henry helping me out and going along with the
family's activities. Some grumbling but not too bad.
I don't want to say we have turned a corner just in case
I get hit with more tween attitude, but this is feeling pretty good
I will just be in the moment!

Oh my. The 16 yo is working! A small job at the nearby senior assisted living center. She is also doing an internship fighting Monsanto! Now, can we get her to help out a bit around the house?

So. jealous. FS doesn't seem to think she needs a job, but I need her to have one!

Okay... I don't know how to say this without sounding like the worst mother...
My 19 year old is taking us on a rollercoaster ride. He wants to move out, he doesn't want to move out. He wants to go to Seattle, he wants to stay in my family room. And the fighting when we voice our opinion about it is escalating.
It would be worth writing off what he owes us... just for the peace.

we just came back from a mini vacation and i was THIS CLOSE to gushing last night that FC was an amazing kid- she's got a photographic memory for places and maps and things (but not for homework, of course) and traveling with her is so good. We and my mom had a great time on Cape Cod and lots of hiking, beach, nature preserve type stuff. We were sort of escaping from a situation at home that was very, very stressful (all three of us had about a week of stress stomach and headaches etc) and the kid was a real champ. Of course we're now back at home, the stressful situation is sort of resolved, and this morning she's screaming at me because I don't like some stupid internet video (i'm so sorry, but it's racist and stupid and i don't have time to watch stupid things).
So, I guess, I still have an amazing kid- she helped me make pierogies by hand last week, put it that way. she's really fantastic. even if she makes me nuts.

Your vacation sounds wonderful! So happy it was a good break!

Could it be that FC is just acting out now because now the other stressor is resolved and its finally safe to release some of the resulting pressure?

Also, lets get dosas and soft serve soon!

tlish!!!! sorry i have been so bad about keeping in touch. we needed to escape, things were REALLY bad. i've also been keeping quiet and am staying off FB for the time being to avoid teh dramaz.
i know FC releases where it's safe, and here that is only around me when we're alone. we are both keeping so much bottled up. things are good now but we unfortunately are dealing with a long-term situation that will likely not resolve itself and probably will get even worse before it gets better. we are going to see how the first months of school go and then decide what to do. in the meantime, one day at a time. volunteering with parrots tomorrow and this time i'll take pics.

thanks kfad- it sounds horrific but as i keep telling myself (and mr torque, who is about thiiiiiis close to begging us to come home), this is all life skills and we are building up patience, karma, people skills..... the kid spent 3 hours doing her math yesterday without harrassment. it's amazing what you can get done when no electronics come on your camping trip......
