I was thinking of adding a page into BabyPunk’s baby book about stuff that happened on the day she was born or was going on in the world around her birthday.

Problem is either im just really dumb or I have wicked bad pregnancy brain.

So far ive come up with who the president was and our state senators and that’s it.

I thought I could put a blurb in about this stupidly long winter we are having in New England and that the world got a new pope after one resigned. We are not Catholic but I figure it’s a good bit of historical interest.

For me personally I would enjoy reading nerdy stuff like that 20-30 years later.

The baby book we got seems pretty thorough in having you list current members of the household (family and pets), I think it has what mom and dad’s occupations were at the time, current address, etc.

So im lame and cant think of anything else.

I think my mom saved the front page of the paper from the day I was born. My mother in law has the year in review magazines by Time from the years her sons were born.

A lot of those "On the day you were born..." things feature popular TV shows and songs and books and other bits of pop culture. My husband has a 1976 mug that has those sorts of thing on it. You could also talk about the kind of technology that is popular now (tablets, smartphones, flatscreen TVs, e-readers) and various recent scientific achievements.

yeah the pop culture stuff is good. i forgot about that completely. that's actually stuff that i remember. i was born in 1977 and all i know is that is the year that Elvis died and the first Star Wars was released.

maybe #1 song, movie, and tv show or something?

the technology one is good too because if you look at 1977 vs 2013 it's a pretty good laugh!

scientific achievements is good but i would need someone to tell me what they were!

i should have done what i did the year we got married and i just typed out big news headlines into a word document. eventually i was going to put it into a scrapbook but 7.5 years later it's still just a word document on my computer.

we seem to have a weird pope thing. Pope John Paul died the year we got married right before we went on our honeymoon and we were in Rome like a week later.
now we're having a baby and Pope Benedict resigns and new Pope (Francis? i forget already) has been "elected" (? is that the right word?)

it's weird to think about all the stuff that wasnt around when i was born and think about now.

cell phones, internet, computers, tvs with remotes, dvrs (VCRS TOO!), most video game things, reality tv (that might have been a good thing!)

makes one wonder what the world will be like in another 35 years :-O
we'll definitely be in pimpin flying cars!

I really like the "when you were born..." blurbs that say what the average price of a loaf of bread, a car, a house, a stamp, etc. were that year. It's fun to look back as an adult, when you actually have to buy those things, and realize how much they've changed since you were born.

Yes, we saved the day's newspaper for our kids. They're all grown up, but I don't know that they really care, though? They left their baby books and all the other souvenirs at home. But I like looking at it all!

i also got our postman to give me some weird commemmorative stamp from that time and we got the newly-minted pennies from that year.

from that day there was nothing special, but the girls were born a month and a half before Y2K, which we spent in the hospital waiting for the world to end, so that is our big reference. I did snag one of those Time or whatever magazine year-in-review things for that year, which I think is sufficient. I think it's asking a lot for that day to be super-interesting, so for me that year was more important. I wish they still made encyclopedia yearbooks, i know the one from the year i was born was so interesting to me.

Why report the news on the date of your child's birth when you can create it? Maybe give birth on a tightrope or while robbing a bank or whatever.

Supreme Court cases in progress!

This is such a cool idea. I would love to have this, and I'd look back at it again and again.

my parents bought a thing about what happened on the day I was born.

Stamps went up by 1p.

I hope for something more interesting for your baby.
