They are making me do work at work now, so I don't get to hang out on the PPK and benefit from everyone's parenting advice as much as I like. I'm so glad I checked in and saw this back to school thread though. All the photos put a big smile on my face.

It is now official: chompy7 hates middle school. He was crying about it this morning, how much he didn't want to go.

I am sorry FF. I hope chompy finds his footing in middle school soon and has a better time. I know it must be so stressful and sad for you and Mrs Face to see your sweet boy crying. Many good thoughts to all of you.

Poor Chompy.
I feel like middle school needs an "It gets better campaign." Shorty doesn't hate it, per se, but she is broken up over the fact that she has only one class with any of her friends and it is band. So no talking. And there are a ton of new teachers this year so her social anxiety is a lot higher than it would be.

I hated middle school also. I already know Reno will hate middle school and she's only 6. I feel that is when I will homeschool her. :)

oh no, I'm sorry Footface. Is it the social aspect that's making him unhappy, or a combo of various things?

Middle school is a time of unmitigated horror. I hope he's able to pull through to the light at the end of the tunnel (for me, high school was 1000x better). What helped me a little bit was focusing on interests outside of school.

So true! Shae keeps saying how much he loves high school and he can't believe how much better it is than middle school!

Tell Chompy to hang in there, it sucks for everyone and it really does get easier each year of middle school. I really feel for you, footie & Mrs Footie. So rough watching your kid go through stuff like this.

Kelly, Shae is in high school, amazing! I don't know why that didn't register before.

Poor Chompy :( Middle School sucked for me too. I was fat and had braces and glasses and a perm and the kids were really mean to me. I wish I had some sort of helpful advice but I don't. It ends though, that's good.

i must have done a real good job preparing FC because she keeps saying "you know, it's not as bad as you made it out to be." at least the bullying isn't happening at that school anymore, i guess.

I would like to state here that so far, in the first ten days of classes, there have been:
2 fire drills
1 "disaster" drill (nuclear, apparently, because it wouldn't be a real middle school experience if you weren't laying awake at night worrying about nuclear armageddon...)
1 pep rally
3 assemblies
she didn't even have homework for the first week.
also, no changing for gym yet, since it took them 3 days to get weights and measures on all the kids.
i had forgotten about all the administrative crapola in public school.
i mean, i'm glad they have drills and all, but i wonder if there will ever be, like, classes....

Footie, so sorry to hear how rough it's going. Middle school is kind to no one. : ( I hope you guys can find a good way to cope with the difficulties.

Isaiah's first week at school has been pretty good. He seems to be getting into the routine quite well now (and so am I!), and our week has gone smoothly. They give out little calendars with practice homework (for starting a good homework routine), and the assignments are short and sweet, ie, look for the letter A. He loves it, and does extra letter/number/mathwork with us for fun.

He likes his teacher and his classmates, though he doesn't seem to remember very many names yet (which for him is unusual, he loves learning names). I think once he's a little more settled in, he'll learn names and make some awesome friends. We found out someone else who lives in our apartment building also has a kid in kindergarten at the same school in a different class. Maybe they'll be buddies!

H's first day went well. No tears until Thursday. I told him that it gets better. Then I felt like it was a lie. School is hard on the kiddos. But pre-k shouldn't be too bad. (I hope) He has two buddies from playgroup that join his class twice a week. So far so good.
So sorry to Chompy. It's so hard to see that. Our sweet neighbor boy is having a hard time too. Hard to control my inner mama bear when I see that.

It might get better, but right now it's getting worse.

All we can get out if him is that his first period class (percussion ensemble) is the problem. It's not the teacher, or any of the kids, or the fear of being put on the spot. It's just... awful and makes him want to cry. So mornings (and some evenings) find him in tears, obsessing over his dread of going to school.

Poor Chompy. Does he have to take that class? It sounds like it's an elective type of class.

Is that something you guys can get changed, footie? Maybe that is an extreme level of awful, not the usual run-of-the-mill awful. I did get one of Shae's classes changed to make things easier in 7th grade I think. It helped a lot.

Ada finally had her first day of preschool today. They phase the 2 year olds in so today was only an hour. Eventually it will be 2.5 hrs two days a week. She was pretty clingy for awhile but she warmed up to the teachers and I left the room towards the end. When I came back to get her she was sitting on the assistant teacher's lap and didn't want to get up to go. Ha.On the way home she kept saying how much fun school is and she loved it. This is really the first time she will be in someone else's care (besides my mom watching her) so I'm sure I'll be a nervous wreck when she is actually there alone for the full amount of time.
