The community center here said that their toy drive is in trouble this year, but they don't say what they need (just that message in the local paper).

Any ideas? It seems that people buy the most for little kids.

What toys bring your kids the most pleasure right now?

I have young kids so probably not too much help here. My kids love cars, blocks, and books. Can you call the community center and find out the needs?

No, they don't really have a person to talk to--it's just a drop off point for another community organization.

My kids are on the younger end, too, but I always like getting art supplies for toy drives. You can get so much for your money! In a similar vein, I saw spirographs and fashion plates in stores recently and I remember having a lot of fun with both of those as an older kid. Craft kits? Books? Lego? I know a bunch of older kids obsessed with Minecraft. I'm not sure how that translates into toy drive toys, but I know there are Minecraft guides and activity books and stuff.

I agree with art and craft stuff for older kids. Jewellery, knitting, crochet (may be easier to teach yourself than knitting).

Yes on the art supplies. And if you use a coupon app or even check their sites, Michael's, etc (i am blanking on other crafty store names) often have these coupons where you can get 20, 40% off a single item, and that makes a big box of art stuff even cheaper.

That's a great idea. I have the Michaels app on my phone so I'll try there. We are mostly planning on Walmart.

Legos are always popular.

ETA: Pinko beat me to this suggestion!
