Yeah, that is awesome. Malka has been able to wear the same shoes and most of the same clothes for nearly a YEAR! It's kind of ridiculous, especially because I still have strong impulses to buy her cute new clothes, and I indulge them. In terms of percentiles, have you looked at the WHO charts? I just discovered that Malka is actually over the 25% in weight and height on those charts, even though she's barely on the weight chart my doctor uses.

Yep we've still got Sierra in a lot of 9month old clothes and it's still hard to find tiny shoes for her that are harder-soled because man she just wants to stomp endlessly around the playground. According to that WHO chart, she is not even on there for her age height-wise and in the 5th percentile weight-wise. Whatev, she is my little munchkin!

Cutie patootie Sierra!

@Ariann, do you know the source of the charts your doctor uses? We've just been discussing this on our local LLL group page as there's a big deal in the news here lately about how the UK should abandon the WHO charts in favor of ones that are more inline with formula feeding.

Our ped just switched to everything electronic and I noticed his chart was WHO. I'd always been curious, but hadn't asked. It was cool the last time because he have us the exact percentile, like 68.2% or something.

Also, Love Sierra's little montage!

Sierra! She's such a cutie!

The information on the WHO charts is so interesting. Anyone have information on the different charts used and why they differ so drastically? L is in the 95% on both L and W and she's not that high on the one at our ped.

thats really interesting about the growth charts because i have that AAP book called something like Caring for your Baby through 5 years old or something and before i went to the pedi i thought she was 5th percentile for weight and then the dr said she was just scraping onto the chart at 1%

i thought i read somewhere that there is supposed to be different growth charts for formula fed babies and breastfed babies and to make sure your doc is using the right one.

i have no idea what charts she was using she didnt seem to care too much about her percentile.

according to those charts Ariann she would be between 50-75% for height (she was 4 months and just under 2 feet)
and she's between 1 and 3% for weight so that is similar.

am i reading the height one correct? that's a big difference. the doc said she was in the 10% on her charts for height.

I think its worth remembering that the differences between the percentiles are so small. So a quarter inch can be the difference between being in the 25% and the 50%.

I assume the old CDC charts, but now the CDC recommends using the WHO charts for kids up to 2 years. http://www.cdc.gov/growthcharts/
I believe the WHO charts are supposed to be better for breastfed babies who tend to grow slower and that the CDC ones were based on formula fed babies. I would not be surprised if they were now worried people were trying to fatten up their kids because the CDC chart is more likely to show them underweight. Malka was mostly formula fed, but in the style of breastfeeding, so I would've guessed she should've tracked more with WHO anyway.

The charts in the books can also be crazy hard to read, but this little chart is very clear. Did you convert her height into centimeters correctly?

I love vegan playdates! And everybody looks so healthy and happy, totally just fine whatever percentile they are!

(But I get the worrying--tiny wu is a tiny one too. Here she's busting out her new 6-9 month size duds, just in time for her 11 month birthday).

Well, at least compared to much of what I buy here, US sizes do tend to be bigger!

It's hard not to worry, but just like grownups, babies come in all shapes and sizes. :) I have the lucky fortune to know two other women who had babies the same day as Freya. (We met in a childbirth class that K and I trialled and then didn't enroll in. One of the families moved to Sweden temporarily, and the third stayed in the class and lives here in Oxford. Out of the 8 of us in the class, 3 of us birthed on the 26th of November!). Anyway....it's really cool to have this sort of baby focus group. Aside from extended breastfeeding, the boys and Freya are being parenting in all sorts of different ways with regard to childcare, co-sleeping, diet, etc. They are vastly different in size, but they are all thriving and very happy. It's a really good reminder not to look just at the charts but the whole picture.

My oldest was never on the chart for weight, but usually at the high end for height. He is still tall and thin, and totally healthy.
My middle one was short and rolly polly as a baby. And she is now average height and a healthy weight. The big two were exclusively formula fed.
The baby was breast fed at first and never gained an ounce until we supplemented formula. She was short and round. Now she is still short and a healthy weight. She grew out of 18 month sized clothes at 3 years old.
What I am saying here is... babies are very different and I think that when we do our due diligence and trust our instincts, they will turn out great.

So the tank museum had a thank-you picnic thing for volunteers and families. I can't really explain this though:
