The place we take swimming lessons has the babies underwater from <6 months! They work up to 10-12 seconds underwater. It's super gentle and positive (there are some scary swim teachers out there) and Sven loves it.

Don't worry too much about it LP! We started L at 9 months, and she was the youngest one in her group. The only reason why we did it is because she hated water so much :) She ended up liking the swimming, but more the hanging out in the water and then having snacks with her friends - supposedly they don't have enough upper body strength to really swim for a few more years :)

Yeah, we originally signed up just to have an indoor activity that would get us out of the house during the Danish winter! We started when tiny wu was about 13 weeks old and I'm glad, because she was a very fussy, refluxy infant, but she did love the water. The lessons gave me some confidence and ideas so I could take her to the heated pool for free swim, too, thereby increasing her happy times. Also, some of the exercises are good substitutes for tummy time, which she HATED! As a final plus, you're in contact with your baby the whole time, unlike some mommy and me type activities where the baby has to lie on the floor sometimes (I may have mentioned tiny wu's distaste for being put down).

So for us it's been a great fit, but it's obviously not something anybody NEEDS to do.

My sister in law could swim underwater, the length of their pool when she was 9 months old. Scariest/most amazing thing ever to watch. She's only 3 months older than Shae and I remember fending off their offers to teach him to swim because it freaked me out so badly.

LP, don't worry about it! I also started swim lessons more for me than for Sven, as a way to get out of the house and maybe meet people. One of the swim schools here offers free "get acquainted with the water" classes for babies under six months, and Sven loved it so much we just kept going with it. I switched to making Mr. Coot take him as their weekend "father-son bonding activity"/"I need everyone out of the house" activity.

I am so happy with the owl sweater, it fits so perfectly! The rocket ship and whale dresses are pretty awesome, too. I've been on a crafting rampage lately.

I can't believe that with all the work you do at the hospital, you find time and energy to do such beautiful crafty stuff - how wonderful and how inspiring!

You guys are really kind, but just to put this in context I've been sewing and knitting for a long time and it really doesn't take me that long to make something baby sized. I sit down and make something for 2 hours maybe once or twice a month.

A bunch of cuties again - babies in sweaters are adorable.

I am jealous that you can whip out a knitted baby sweater in just a few hours Moo. I have been knitting since I was 12, but am SO slow my husband was joking that I had better start NOW (at 11 weeks pregnant) if I want to have a baby sweater complete in time for the new arrival. (I do have a leg up though because I completed only 1/2 of a sweater for my last baby - so I can just pick up where I left off for this one ;)) The owl sweater is really adorable.

whoa mooo you made those dresses? those are awesome!

happy 1 year Eli!!!!

babywestie in the pool is so cute!

im pretty sure i was like 2ish when i first did swimming lessons (id have to ask my mom though) but it was in a lake and not a pool so im sure it's not a good idea to put an infant in a lake

i dont even know where we would go around here.
there must be a YMCA or something i guess

Oh man! I love that owl sweater! I've seen that pattern and considered it a bunch of times but wasn't sure how into it I was. It looks awesome on Scarlett though (who is cute as ever). Nice work mooo!

We dragged the boy out into the woods with promises of hiking out to take a look at a waterfall.

Once we reached the waterfall, we took a moment to bask in the glory and majesty of nature:
