Wow TCC you are so far along already! When it was me who was pregnant each week seemed agonizingly slow...but when it's some one else it whizzes by! How are the other kiddos feeling? Are they excited?

This pregnancy started whizzing by for me after the first trimester was over! I think Raygold is excited about the new baby, Vax seems suspicious about whether or not there is really a baby growing inside me, and Beetroot doesn't seem to care: he just wants to read and play outside.

My biggest concern at the moment is where the heck Vax will sleep once I have the baby. All attempts to transition him have failed. We start him off on his own every night and he always ends up with me. I told Mr Crabby once his dissertation is finished, he is going to have to sleep with Vax and keep Vax locked in the bedroom with him (otherwise he escapes).

This baby is trying to give me a c-section from the inside. It is so strong!!! God forbid it ever steps on my bladder. I have a strong pelvic floor, but the foetus is so strong, my bladder wouldn't stand a chance! I have never felt anything like this! My other 3 were big wigglers, but never tried to rip me open Alien-style. XD

Oh, I'm so excited for Baby Crabby to arrive! (But not too soon, of course)!

Mini Wu was transverse til about 36 weeks and it absolutely felt like a foot was going to explode out my side. It was so uncomfortable! My sister was pregnant at the same time and over Christmas she kept rubbing her tummy smugly and saying "it looks like you're hurting... that's so weird....". No kidding, a 20 inch baby was lying sideways across my fairly small frame! I hope Baby Crabby harnesses his strength for good and not evil.

Yes! The little guy is totally transverse -- I didn't even realise how obviously he is (feet on the right, usually facing forward) until you mentioned this.

Probably better that he's sideways, though, because if he were right-side up, with the strength of those kicks my bladder would be toast. XD

I had my midwife appointment today. My bloods are all fine (my iron is on the low end or normal, which it always is at this point in pregnancy -- they didn't say anything about it, I just had a nosy through my notes), my bump has gone from being a little below average to being above average -- this makes sense because it seemed to almost explode in size one week (goodbye, lady holiday! I shall see you again after I give birth), and the baby has moved so that it is head down, but his butt and legs are still off to the side, kind of like he's doing a weird floaty leg version of downward dog. ;D

Today, I knocked over a cup of tea with my stomach. I didn’t even notice until I looked down because my stomach felt a little warm!

Thanks, Tofulish! <3 (Lady Holiday is my favourite euphemism ever.)

I swear I feel WAY bigger than this. 33 weeks. Raygold in the background. Gratuitous preggo belly bathroom selfie at Stirling Castle yesterday:

Exciting. I guess the way bubs is lying makes you feel bigger? I never got a big pregnant bump with A, I often wonder what it would be like! Think I'm just getting broody.

Yeah, when the baby descends into my pelvis and I am walking slower than a toddler, I definitely feel bigger.

I wasn't very big with Raygold full-term:

But was HUGE with Vax:
Image

I'd much rather be huge and waddly, though. Raygold was on top of all my intestines and I was barfing fairly regularly.
Beetroot was suuuper low towards the end and my hips were crazy sore, especially at night, but that was preferable to earlier on when he was higher and I had costochondritis from my expanding ribcage.

It's neat to see the photos of the different bellies on the same person! You look marvelous by the way.

I carried pretty low my entire pregnancy and didn't have too many problems except for the sore hips that you mentioned at night.

Heyo I guess this is a place I belong now!

I'm close to 16 weeks along and all seems to be going well so far. I've finally told everybody. My mom bought the baby a few things last night and I can't stop squealing over how cute the widdle socks are.

I've decided to not "find out the gender" next month and I swear it's like I've announced I'll be giving the baby a tattoo when it's born. Nobody believes gender neutral clothes/nurseries/etc are cute, but I believe the Target website disagrees. (Gray with mint, yellow, greens? ADORBS.) Last week, my mom was texting me that I should find out since people will be grumpy, and at the exact same moment my stepmom was bugging me to find out so she can have fun with it. I'd almost believe it was planned, the timing was so great.

Morning sickness has MOSTLY let up and I MOSTLY have an appetite again, but I still am not eating enough. Also, some days I'll be feeling fine and just have to go barf up my last meal. Today, I was eating an Amy's pad thai and it was really yummy, then midway through some sort of texture bothered me and I almost lost it. I couldn't go back to my meal for the rest of the night, and now I feel sad for wasting food. I've just felt nauseous ever since. My doctor said that it dies down around the second trimester (which I would argue is, again, MOSTLY true), but that I should feel basically 100% better by 20 weeks. FINGERS forking CROSSED.

The weird thing for me is my mom said she will "respect my choices" when it comes to diapers, etc. She was saying she would usually just stock up when Huggies has a deal, but since I'm vegan wants to be sure she gets something cruelty free. I replied that I'm not sure I can afford shiitake like 7th Generation, Honest Co., or even 365 (all of which are so much more than regular diaper brands or generic?!?!), and even if that was my choice, I couldn't fault them for what they kept in THEIR house. She said she would want to be respectful of my (vegan) partner and my choices. I was pretty surprised by this: I wonder if this will expand to feeding? She hasn't expressed any concern over my vegan diet in pregnancy (just that I need to be careful of sugar intake/gestational diabetes), so maybe she will be on board. It would be nice to have at least someone on my side with that, especially with the trending piece about Italy trying to ban veganism for children or whatever.

One thing that makes me kind of sad is when I google "15/16 week baby bump" all the chicks look pregnant. They don't look like they're carrying basketballs, but you can tell there's something going on there. You cannot tell I am pregnant. I am a pear-shaped fatty. My belly that I can see plain as day looks to others like 1) stranger fat lady is fat and has a gut 2) Maddie, fat lady I know, is more top-heavy than I remember her being. It makes me inexplicably sad. I look in the mirror and for once am happy about what I see. Yes, I'm rounder than usual. But that roundness is a BABY and it makes me feel so forking happy to see it showing itself. But then I realize it just looks like a gut, and I get depressed. I have yet to take a bump picture. I see no point.

This post is getting LOOOONG I am sorry.

Assuming I look at all pregnant by Halloween (22 weeks? I forking BETTER), I want to incorporate pregnancy into a costume. I'll probably need to wear maternity clothes by then, anyway! Macy's has this cute top that says "Mummy to be" and Mummy is written in wrappings. I'd do that with some dead-looking makeup, but no TP or anything since this mummy is just "to be." Lololol. It's silly because this is like one of two places in the English speaking world where the pun actually doesn't work, but I love it and want to do it.

If nothing else, it will show random people "YES I AM PREGNANT I AM NOT JUST SUDDENLY CARRYING FAT IN MY BELLY INSTEAD OF MY asparagus."

I again apologize for the longness. HELLO!

Congrats! I really like the idea of not knowing the sex because you make everyone else so aware of all their sexist ideas about clothing, toys, etc. Just buy whatever, it's not like babies care about what sex they are or whether their toy is a car or a doll., blue or pink. My infant son likes pink.

Congratulations oddspongeout! I definitely understand being excited about having a bump but feeling like you don't look pregnant like seemingly everyone else's photos on-line. I definitely went through a stage where I just felt like I looked like I was letting myself go rather than looking like I was in the early stages of pregnancy! "I don't look pregnant, just bloated or beer-bellied," etc. I took one photo of me mid-pregnancy actually pointing at my bump and posted it on facebook (I still haven't announced on fb that I'm pregnant and hardly anybody knows) and NOBODY realised it was a pregnancy photo. I think they just thought I was posing with my kids while looking bloated or something!!

Congratulations, OSO! I also didn't find out sex ahead of time. I figured my baby's got a whole lifetime of being pigeonholed because of gender, why start before they're even born? And even though some gendered clothing doesn't bother me (if I had a girl, I wouldn't necessarily be opposed to putting her in dresses and stuff) I really, really didn't want a bunch of super-gendered clothes either. (Of course once the baby was out we started getting some of those things anyway, which I knew would happen and braced myself for, and will probably just kindly hand off to others.)

Anyway, we got a bunch of stuff as hand me downs from friends (some from baby boys and some from baby girls), happily a lot of it was gender neutraly stuff, which I agree with you is cute!. We also definitely put our son in some hand me down ruffly flowery pink onesies as a newborn, because who cares what he is wearing when he's probably just going to spit up or pee on it in a few hours anyway? I also made some non gendered pants and cloth diaper covers out of old sweaters. P.S. Thrift stores are a great place to get baby clothes as well, if you don't know folks you can get hand me downs from, because they grow out of stuff so quickly that it hardly gets any wear, and they aren't priced to be boutiquey like some adult thrift stores. The few clothing items I've actually bought were almost exclusively thrift store stuff, for between 50 cents and $3/item.

And yes, I would encourage you to look over at the cloth diaper thread! Depending on your laundry situation and what style of diapers you get, it can be way cheaper than buying diapers. Having tried a few kinds, my favorite method so far is the almost-cheapest option anyway, prefolds + cheapish waterproof covers. I have also gotten some diapers second hand, both as hand me downs from friends and some from internet second hand cloth diaper sites, and discovered that buying second hand prefolds is even better than buying new not just for price, but because then you don't have to wash them a bunch of times to get them absorbent, it's already been done.

I also asked for some weeks of cloth diaper service for baby shower gifts because I didn't want to buy a newborn size that would get outgrown in a few weeks, and I knew I would want some time to recover/get used to caring for a baby before I started having to do two extra loads of laundry a week. I personally like and feel good about using cloth over disposables (which I've used a little for traveling or when we've got a diaper rash and I want to use the heavy duty non-cloth compatible diaper cream instead of the hippie diaper cream) enough that I would keep using the diaper service over buying disposables regularly if I only had access to coin laundry. Ok cloth diaper rant over. Over on the Frugalwoods blog, I think I recall the authors have said the most frugal disposable diapers they can find were at Costco, so that might be worth a membership if you don't have one...

Also, I think almost every pregnant person has that time where they feel noticeably bigger but it isn't apparent that they're pregnant yet, and are anxious for a clear baby belly. That time may be at different weeks for different people, but I know I didn't fit into my pants anymore by 16 weeks, but didn't start getting asked if I was pregnant until something more like 20-22 weeks. Even then, many people when I told them seemed surprised, so I guess not everyone could tell. You could always start wearing maternity shirts with the elastic sides now if you want to send the message that you're pregnant!

I hope you start feeling better soon! So nice that your family sounds like they're being/will be supportive of how you want to raise a kid.

Thanks, everyone!

Cloth diapers that you purchase are not for me. My partner and I both work and will both continue to do so. We have coin/SHARED laundry (in our complex, at least! but still) and not a whole lot of time. We also can be pretty lazy with laundry. Not to mention, if all goes according to plan, I hope to start graduate school when the kid is five months old. I just don't see a way of making it work.

Finding a day care that works with you, when I already am limited due to budget, is just too stressful. Also, my mom will probably help a lot on weekends and she said she's no-go on bagging up cloth.

Diaper service eliminates the laundry problem, but not really the daycare/relatives problem. The $25/week or less when months are bought in bulk that the cheaper of my local services provide is probably cheaper than disposable without taking advantage of crazy deals and coupons. . . But it doesn't do much if I'm only using them at home.

If I was a rich girl, I'd be all over Honest Co. They look cute, like cloth. They're vegan. The environmental part isn't there, but hey. It's pretty darn close.

I might look into buying a handful of cloth for use at home only? It cuts back on all the things bad about disposables and then you have cute butt. I guess it just depends on how much home time there will really be. As of now, my partner and I work pretty opposite schedules. Day care will probably only be part time. School could fork that up, though. If I get into grad school when I hope to, most of baby's diaper times will be when I'm in school.

As for the gender thing: YES YES YES. That is exactly why I'm holding off. I know once they see the birth certificate/hospital cap and/or do their first helpful diaper change, gender roles will be shoved down my poor kid's throat. Why not start off with a few more neutral-y things, to at least provide variety?

I already said congrats on FB and IG but I'll say it here too to elevate me to super stalker status? :)

I did find out the sex of Baby Lobster but we didn't tell a whole lot of people (our immediate families and close friends only) and we made it clear that we weren't interested in a bunch of pink flowery stuff. My MIL still sent pink things but whatever, we see her once or twice a year so I just choose to not fight that battle. My experience was that I found a TON of gender neutral second hand infant clothes but now that my kid is in toddler clothes things seem to be a lot more gendered (at least in the secondhand world).

Good to know about the toddler clothes. That's pretty frustrating. I'd rather the really divided clothes be the only option when the kid is old enough to pick. . . One year olds don't really care how they're dressed, right? Oh, well!

With exception of gifts, my goal is basically ALL secondhand until the kid is old enough to care. Hopefully by that point, it won't be a big deal. :) The exceptions are shoes for walking-in (cheapo Walmart-esque shoes seem good to me? I'm not sure how I feel about shoes broken for another person's feet while a kid is growing?) and stuff like socks (which don't seem to exist secondhand). Oh and UNDERWEAR, once potty trained. But again, plan is a 2 year grad program when kid is 5 months old. That hopefully won't be a problem. Haha.
