So after reading pretty much every post in the playground for nearly two years, I finally feel like I actually belong here! After a loss at 12 weeks last year I've been super hesitant to get excited/share news but at 22 weeks I'm pretty sure this baby is actually happening. I'm due right before Christmas, it's sure going to be an interesting holiday season! So exciting! I have goosebumps for you!

Had a 12 week OB appointment, and the twins were bouncing around everywhere on the ultrasound! It's funny how much more real this feels now. Sure, I had an ultrasound at 7.5 weeks that showed two sacs and everything, but there's not much to see that early. Seeing two recognizable little babies is so different.
I think I need to take this stuff one day at a time, because I get a bit overwhelmed thinking about taking care of two newborns plus a 2 year old. I think we might need to look more seriously into preschool....

i feel like total crepe today. i'm supposed to be fasting until 4pm so i can do my gestational diabetes screening, which i have been putting off for weeks because i HATE fasting and hate that crepe they make you drink and i have some weird anxiety about the whole thing. so of course, i'm at the end of 28 weeks today and the test is supposed to be done between 24-28 weeks. i'm sure it probably wouldn't make a huge difference if i just went on monday, but some bisque-y french nurse will probably yell at me for not coming earlier.
anyway, i had really bad heart burn last night so barely ate anything, certainly not enough to keep me going until 8 or 9 am, and so this morning i woke up and started eating breakfast before thinking about needing to do the test today. i made myself eat something else filling before 9 and i'll go do the test this afternoon. but of course, i STILL have heartburn, and a headache from no coffee, and it's 11:30 and i'm SO freaking hungry. and i have to make it until 4pm.
ugh. i hate this. there must be a better way to screen for diabetes than making a bunch of pregnant women not eat for 6-8 hours.
sooooo hungry, and my esophagus hurts :(

I was told NOT to fast before my GDM test. I had a normal breakfast and then the test about an hour and a half later. My blood sugar was in the 60s.

Yeah, I was told not to fast as well, but some of my friends had to. I wonder why some doctors make women fast? That just seems so mean.

ugh. i couldn't even do it today. the test center was closed. fortunately i discovered this at 1pm and not when i went in for my test!
i really really don't want to do this. this was the only test offered to me by my midwife though. i know there are different kinds. i really want to call and ask if i can do something else instead. i guess i should just go in at 7:30 am on monday though and stop being such a baby.

In the US you don't have to fast before the one hour glucose screening test, but you do have to fast before the full three hour glucose tolerance test.

It depends on your provider... I had to fast for the 1 hr one in my first pregnancy and then the 2 hr one (which they switched to in the interim) too. Other people I know didn't have to fast for any of them.
Some care providers will let you do an at home finger prick daily for 1-2 weeks and then report the results... Maybe you could ask about that?

That is so odd. Even the definitions of the GTT say that it measures glucose in fasting state and then after ingestion of glucose. Ah well. Hope you feel better soon LB!

Oh man, I'm so sorry lb! I was never tested for GD because I never showed any symptoms. Is that an option with your provider? I mean, if you don't want to do it, and there's isn't any cause for concern, I would think it'd be reasonable to skip it.

i'm really tempted not to. but it's my second pregnancy, and both my mom and my sister have both had it, and i'm three years older. i dunno. i have so much anxiety about fasting, it's weird. i am really not good with not eating for more than a couple hours at a time even when i'm not pregnant, and it's a million times worse when i am.
plus, this awful heartburn will NOT go away. it's been all freaking day now!

also, i'm just reading up on heartburn, and i basically accidentally ate everything on the "this causes heartburn" list today. mint, chocolate, tomato, and tea would appear to be the major culprits. sigh.

I'm 39 weeks today. I'm healthy and the fetus is very noticeably active, so clearly it is happy to still be inside! I just never expected to be pregnant this long :).

Here I am, sitting at the test center, waiting for the one and two hour mark so they can test my blood. I am SOOOOO hungry. ugh. This sucks. That sugar drink is disgusting by the way.

So sorry Littlebird. We don't do that test in Norway unless there's a reason for it, so I have no experience of it. Hope your food is delicious when you get to eat!

Good luck LB! I always think that the drink tastes like a flat soda, but don't really drink soda so I could be off.
Hope you are GDfree and that you and Tzipi can get a nice breakfast or lunch afterwards!

well, no one has called me yet and it's been over a week. i'm guessing that means it was negative. i guess i will probably call the midwife office sometime this week just to make sure. cause i have for SURE not been doing great in the nutrition department this summer. not by my usual standards anyway.
last time i was pregnant, i craved poutine non-stop for like 6 months. i gave in once or twice i thing. this time? soda. freezies. more soda. iced tea. cookies/cakes/chocolate. more soda. i NEVER drink soda, except for a couple times a year on road trips... and since it's vegan, it's been pretty damn hard to convince myself to abstain.

I know what you are talking about littlebird - during my pregnancy I craved hotdogs and sweets - so since sweets were vegan guess what I gobbled down in great amounts!! Cravings are crazy things - even before I was a vegetarian or vegan I NEVER ate hotdogs because they are so disgusting.. but while pregnant I would even dream about eating them and once even had to ask my husband had I really eaten one or not because the dream was so real!

oh god, the soda. i have a 2L thing of rootbeer in my fridge right now AND there were 5 little bottles of ginger beer but now there are only two. there are umpteen soda bottles in my recycling box. it's so weird to me, because we especially never have soda at home. i like carbonated stuff like perrier and club soda, once in a while. but not like pure corn syrup in a bottle. and AS i'm drinking it, i'm like, this is sooooo gross... i can taste the HFCS right now, but i don't even care.
i better freaking not have GD.

Hi guys! Happy to announce that we're pregnant and my husband and I (and our daughter, to a slightlt lesser degree!) are very excited about this after trying for a very long time. I have an appointment Thursday where I hopefully will get given a due date, because there was a bunch of confusion about lmp and dates, and this is why I have already had a dating ultrasound done even though I have only "known" (tested) I was pregnant for about 2.5 months, now. But it was fun, got to see baby's heartbeat flickering on the screen, and also he/she was moving around to beat all! Fun!
