Good luck! I agree with everyone else, talk about everything you can in advance, also talk about options around your induction if it winds up needing to happen!

Ahahahaha, LisaPunk -- being pregnant with Raygold made me really susceptible to food suggestions. I saw a commercial for pizza-steak and thought it looked delicious, and normally, I think that kind of stuff is really gross!

Thanks everyone. They started the pitocin a few hours ago and not much is going on. I'm waiting for my breakfast to appear. I've had a really bad headache since last night and I think it's low blood sugar.

I finally saw the dr this morning. I hadn't seen him since I was admitted I was seeing mainly a resident. He said obviously I'm at a higher risk for a c section but right now there is nothing indicating I will need one. They are just monitoring me and seeing if the pitocin will do anything.

I'm actually pretty bored so I'm just trying to chill and relax. Thank god for web enabled smart phones!!!

Everyone here is super nice and asked me about my birth plan several times even though the whole thing has been shot to hell. My husband gave them a copy just for anything left that may apply. They all seem to know I'm vegan and have said several times things they think are on the menu and that my husband can go get me stuff.

The residents are a bit over zealous, one wanted to shove some balloon thing in me and mechanically dilate my cervix and the dr was like "yeah how bout we not do that" :-P

So maybe baby later today?? A lot of stuff seems still up in the air.

Good luck LP!! Don't fear the foley balloon, it's a great option for induction!

Ah, a foley catheter! My sister had one of those (and then ended up with a c-section because her son was breech, doh) and yeah, they are a weird old thing most people don't use.

Glad it's going well so far!

LP, so exciting that you'll be meeting your little girl soon! I hope your labour goes quickly from here on out! I'm glad you're doing well right now!

CC, you look amazing! Love that belly! It's so fascinating how each pregnancy is carried so differently. I think you were saying you noticed a size/shape difference this time? I definitely did with mine as well.

LP, I'm not sure I'm all belly (it's an optical illusion because my belly is so friggin' huge) -- I've gone up two underwear sizes!

Are you bored out of your mind or relaxing during the last few hours before new motherhood? Did you finally get something good to eat?

Both I guess? I'm bored and anxious to get the show on the road but basically just resting & napping while I can. They are still allowing me to eat so that's good. :-)

I'm amazed you can nap so many hours after starting Pit! They must be going veeerrrry slowly, which is great. Eat and rest while you can!

The pit has done absolutely nothing for me. I'm only dilated like 1-2 cm and I think they said 75% effaced after last night. They gave me 2 doses if the prostaglandin (????? I may have totally butchered that word)
I guess it changed the babies baseline and it made someone nervous so they changed me to the pit since the other stuff had done a little bit but the pit had zero effect. They eventually turned it off and gave me another one of the other pills. They shove it up next to your cervix.

A big old fat load of nothing is going on. I haven't had a real contraction yet just some pressure. I do think I lost my mucous plug today though so maybe a little bit is happening. This preeclampsia stuff blows!!!! My bp is like all over the place. :-/

I love the belly Crabby!

I decided to take Ada to the botanic garden today because she wouldn't stop talking about the fish and turtles and flowers that we saw there on the weekend. The walk about killed me. I guess I need to stick closer to home for the next few weeks. I just feel so guilty because its finally getting nice out and I just want to take her places other than the two close playgrounds every day. That and the cherry blossoms are about to bloom at the botanic garden and last year we loved going there a few times a week to see them.

I hope you're getting some good naps in LP!

The prostaglandin is for softening/ripening your cervix. If your cervix opens a little that can spur labor on its own so you don't need Pitocin, but either way the more dilated you are the more likely Pitocin will be effective.

When I was induced last year they used cytotec (which sound like maybe what you had since it was a tiny pill shoved up next to the cervix) and after a few hours on that started some pit - that combo set up some regular contractions that were picked up on the monitor but that I couldn't feel. They started this process 8 pm the night before and the next morning at 7 am nothing really had happened so my midwife offered to break my water - and that got the show on the road and the rest of my labor (although still augmented with pit) was perfectly smooth. I didn't need pain medication or any other interventions and had a just a really great birth that I look back fondly on. I am hoping for the same for you and babypunk!

Thanks for sharing that annasrobbie! I'm worried about whether or not I will be able to handle an induced labor with no pain meds so I will think of you and poopiebitch and know it can be done!!!

LP, if you have your baby tomorrow, she'll share a birthday with Marconi (the physicist!). I think that's excellent.

(If she had her baby yesterday, the baby will share a birthday with Barbra Streisand!)

LP, I hope things are still going/went well!
