I had my 20 week scan yesterday and while I am relieved that everything looked good I am bummed that we couldn't see the sex of the baby. I was really looking forward to it because I was going to wait until then to start thinking of names and also tell people I don't see on a regular basis including my non immediate family. I think I might go to one of those silly 4D places just to find out because I won't be able to have another ultrasound.

20 weeks already! So glad everything looks A-ok - but boo to the non-cooperative baby!

In my group of mom-friends, one just had a baby and three more just announced they are pregnant. There is baby fever around here! (Unfortunately it's only one-sided in the dub house for now)

ok i'm now just catching up... Pinko, congrats on 2 girls!!

Wow Crabby, that's such a bigger baby (And I feel ya on the ladybits part after big ones... Sam was 8lbs2oz, and Eli 8lbs11ozs)! And I always end up passing one big clot after baby is here... Once its out things get better, faster. But dont overdo it k?

Hahaha, I'm so glad I'm not the only one who passes one big clot each time (I didn't with Beetroot and bled for nearly 8 weeks instead). I'm only spotting 1-3x a day now!

I promise not to overdo it. The whole clot saga was enough drama to keep me in line. No hardcore ab work or P90x until ~6 weeks pp, I promise.

Pinko! Inez + a little sister sounds too adorable for words! Exciting stuff!

And Tank you're half way now too, how fast these second pregnancies seem to be flying by! Sorry you couldn't see the baby's sex, I loved having a surprise but I can understand how frustrating that would be when you want to know. On the up-side, those 4D ultrasounds are pretty amazing, and wolverine might enjoy seeing the 3D pictures of newbaby if you go for one of those!

oh man, crabby, you're a machine! I would absolutely not have been up to p90x at 6 weeks post partum, and I felt pretty great straight after my delivery [9lb1oz] but was just way too busy/tired to fit in anything like that!

I do 30 minutes of kegels a day (not necessarily all at once) and I still pee my pants almost every time I squat to change a diaper -- all I have to do is cough or *raise my voice* and I leak. Squatting totally does it for me. Ugh.
Anyway, my kegel routine is 30 reps of [10 seconds holding, 5 seconds off] followed by some faster kegels (like 3 on 3 off or just pulsing it) for a few minutes. I do that 3 times a day and usually do some other kegels (or just engage in one long holding session or whatever) on top of that.

Just so you know, even if you don't kegel it (but you should!), you'll more than likely get better in a few months. Maybe never back to pre-pregnancy non-leakage (I would still very occasionally leak during a big sneeze, but the biggest difference for me is that my bladder gets bad when I'm ill and have, say, a cough or something, when normally coughing wouldn't make me leak), but a ton better.

Sidenote -- I have a friend who is a doctor and I told her how I started leaking a little after having a baby and she was all, "honey, I do that anyway and I've never had a baby!" She was in her early 30s at the time, so it's not like she was aging and weak or anything.

Another sidenote -- I've heard of regular, non-post-partum people peeing whilst exercising or lifting weights, so it's not abnormal or anything. I mean, I get that it's not normal for you, though, and you don't want to keep peeing during ab exercises, though! (BTW, I leaked almost every time I did the prenatal pilates ab work routine during the third trimester. I would pee right before starting it and still leak.)

OH! BTW, you could start with standing ab work or plank/side-plank ab work if you want to do ab work without peeing. I'm not supposed to do a lot of ab work yet, so I'm doing those at the moment.

I second the opinion that you need a little more time. I had a major meltdown around 4 weeks pp when I got up hearing the baby crying and had to pee, but decided to tend to baby first. Was in the midst of diaper changing when I realized I needed to change my own underwear too because a rivulet of pee was running down my leg. At my 6 week check up I went to discuss it with my doctor (embarrassingly started CRYING in the midst of telling her what was going on) and she said all was normal. Of course she recommended Kegel's, but said that your body just needs time and also unfortunately the effect breast feeding has on your estrogen levels can worsen it for awhile too.
I am now pretty much right as rain. I do make a point to empty my bladder before something like jumping jacks - but I don't even think I need to do that anymore, so take heart!

i was just so surprised as today im 8 weeks post partum (happy 8 weeks Baby Punk) and nothing else has made me leaky. it wasnt even really a "pee my pants" sort of thing but major leakage. when i was pregnant and woould cough or laugh i could definitely FEEL myself pee. this was "omg my underwear feels moist"

oh the joys! ;-)

the best part was my husband was right there and i yelled really loud OMG I THINK I JUST PEED MY PANTS and he started dying laughing at me. luckily i thought it was funny too ;-)

A bunch of my friends went to a pelvic floor therapist after having the babies to help with that issue, among others. They were all thrilled with the results. I didn't go to her after having Sven (felt like it might be a waste of money since we were planning on another in a year or so), but I'm definitely planning on getting myself all fixed up after #2!

We just found out this morning that we are having a girl this time! We're totally shocked. Both of us totally assumed it was another boy. But my acupuncturist totally called it!

Isn't it funny how you picture just another one of what you have? At least I do. When I think about having another I picture another babynut even though I know it doesn't work like that. Congrats!!!!

did she base it on your pulse?
my acupuncturist said that according to Chinese medicine a stronger pulse on one side means girl and the other side means boy. i forget which is which. first time i went in she said i had a boy pulse, then later i had a girl pulse.

she was kind of laughing about it and wasnt sure exactly when you were supposed to tell and im not sure she believe in it but that is what she said.

Thanks! We're settling in to the idea now. :)

Yep, LP, my acupuncturist does it through pulse. She said you can start trying to tell gender after 16 weeks. Ideally both "girl" and "boy" will be really strong and one will just edge the other out, but I guess it does happen when the pulse just screams one or another!
