O, bastah, how frustrating and scary for you. I hope you and Chalupa Batman enjoy your last night of freedom today and get care and answers tomorrow.

mollyjade, I'm pretty sure I don't notice Braxton Hicks myself! In one of my birthing classes the other pregnant ladies were describing them and I was like, Huh, none for me I guess?

At the very least it sounds like you have a good list of questions to ask! Hopefully that will help you make decisions you feel okay about around your care.

I find the BRAIN acronym really helpful for asking medical questions:
B - what are the Benefits of the intervention being proposed? (interventions include hospitalization, withholding food, IVs, monitoring, induction, etc.)
R - what are the Risks of the intervention? (risks are immediate physical risks to you or CB, but also potentially emotional risks, risks associated with things like breastfeeding success or other long-term measures of health, etc.)
A - what are the Alternatives to the proposed treatment (and then what are the benefits/risks of those)?
I - what does your Intuition tell you?
N - what happens if we do Nothing? OR what happens Next? (this one is really "what's the series of events that are going to take place if I say No or if I say Yes?")

And the always question of labor in the hospital: Am I ok? Is the baby ok? Because if the answers to both of those are still yes, you still have time to think through things.

oh god Bastah the MAGNESIUM UGH!!!!
i had that for like 5 days straight because i had preeclampsia. YUUUUCCCKKK!!!!

afterwords looking stuff up on the interwebs apparently i didnt have as many crazy side effects as some people.
i just felt loopy and doped up for a week and when i was finally taken off it i had crazy hot flashes for a long time and they tried to convince me it wasnt the magnesium but whatever. the worst part is how they restrict your liquid intake and it was never really explained to me why sufficiently until after and i was literally drinking water out of the tap in the bathroom on the sly.

i hope you dont have to go back on that icky stuff!!! good thoughts being sent your way!! stay in Chalupa stay in!!! my friend had 4 lbs twins at 35 weeks and they are doing AWESOME so even if you do deliver early they have such amazing preemie care these days. in fact i think they way more than BP now and they are 4ish months younger (3 months? i forget) that being said stay in CHalupa and stop making mommy worry!!! its nice in the womb! you dont want to be out here!!!

Thanks, guys. I've been in the hospital since Friday now and my c section is scheduled for May 17, so as long as CB can wait until then, I guess I'm not leaving here until some time around the 20th. I'm trying not to lose my mind in here

That's only 12 days ;) think of it in comparison to how long you've been pregnant... or when Chalupa Batman turns 18, 12 days will sound like nothing! Thinking happy, not-going-insane, staying-occupied thoughts for you and baby!!

Stay in CB! If you have some sort of smart phone or smart pad, Bag It! and Bridge Constructor are our current obsessions.

Oh, Bastah! I hope you don't find the hospital stay too boring. Just pretend you're in some kind of weird spa with really boring food. ;D
Much love to you and Chalupa Batman! xx

oh bastah my thoughts are with you! the hospital is so boring!!! i had two extended hospitals stays each about a week long and i was climbing the walls. the first was after i had major surgery so i was highly medicated and asleep a lot (or high on pain meds) and i still wanted out. the other was for BP's birth.

bring some books, a laptop, your phone! post on here alot. when i was in the hospital waiting to go into labor for BP i think i posted on this board like 1000 times a day cause i was so bored.

hope everything goes well even though you are stuck there!

I started maternity leave today!!! I really intended to work longer this pregnancy so as to have as much time with baby as possible but I am just tired, and emotionally tired of the ridiculousness of work, and I want to "nest" a little. So here I am at home for the next 13 weeks - I hope baby makes his appearance soon! He is really low and is no longer posterior so things are taking shape - plus I think we have finally settled on a first name at least, Sebastian. My parents arrive on Sunday, so anytime sunday afternoon or later I would be happy to start labor :)

I can't believe you're so close, annasrobbie! Enjoy your time off! I think that for some women, trying to work up until the moment labor starts can delay it, and taking off a little earlier and relaxing can really help get things going. I hope it works out how you want it to! Do you think having done it before makes you more or less nervous this time? It's amazing how much easier second babies tend to be, but I can imagine that it's also tough to have an idea of what you're in for.

Maybe I have just forgotton what it was like - but I don't remember labor as being TOO terrible so I am much less nervous this time (also I am using hypnobabies and am hopeful that will help me be very relaxed and have an easy/quick delivery!). I am more nervous about how I am supposed to know when to get to the hospital and about the post-partum recovery. I was SO dizzy after my first birth and it lasted almost 6 weeks and the midwife can't explain why since my bloodwork didn't look too shabby...and leaving my 2 year old in the hands of my parents - I hope they all survive!

I am going to be induced this weekend! My blood pressure and fluid retention/swelling has been acting up unacceptably out of hand these past couple of weeks. And I guess my fluid level is now acceptable but border line low-normal. Have been having multiple nonstress tests and baby is fine, just my poor body doing the suffering haha! I am a bit leery because I have never been induced before, and it may take a while (my cervix was SHUT this week when exqmined, I know it can change though). I'm ready to get baby here, though. Depending which ultrasound dating you believe, my due date was between tomorrow and the 14 anyways so no worries about lung development or fetal maturity. Tomorrow or sunday, its off to the hpspital for me!!

That is really bizarre that they didn't catch that your water broke before (also, how were they explaining how you suddenly had no fluid?). My understanding was that those strips they use were so sensitive they'd pick up even a drop or two of amniotic fluid. Hope you're keeping as calm as possible, sending lots of good thoughts from over here.

they often don't pick up when your waters have broken. Often the second or third test is positive, but it's actually very common. You will know when your water has broken when you sniff your pantaloons, I know TMI, but amniotic fluid doesn't smell like urine, it smells kinda sweet. Could smell foul as well, that's when you have an infection.

I had two of those PLUS dye injected into my uterus (a specialist did this). He said all three tests weren't accurate because of my circumstances (like with the dye one, he said I should have been injected with half a liter instead of a couple teaspoons). I don't know who to trust or what to do. I don't know if they would even inject someone with that much fluid and if that's even needed, and is that what would need to happen in order to not deliver at 34 weeks, by proving my water didn't break? What if I'm getting induced and have no reason to be? Do I really NEED to be hospitalized? I'm so frustrated and I feel soooo lost. If my water didn't break and if I don't have a leak, I have no idea where my fluid went. There are other causes. He didn't tell me the results of the ultrasound but he described me as having "no fluid." I did see a "1.5 cm" measurement though and that might be it or is just the deepest pocket.

You might be interested that there is a PROM page on Facebook for women who's waters have broken early. There is lots of information and support on there, also if you want to know what to do about anything to do with treatments, what to do, what not to do.

Good luck to you both, strangegirl and bastah! Just catching up on the last week or more of PPK - we've moved into our house but have no phone line/broadband connection, so I'll probably be scarce until that changes. Meanwhile, Euclid is still cooking, though I have a feeling this one will be on the early side! Hit 36 weeks tomorrow. Once I get everything unpacked and enough meals frozen to survive for a bit (just started making casseroles today!), I'll feel a lot better about things! At least we have a house, our furniture, and our car FINALLY (that took up most of last week), so I don't have to fear being homeless with a newborn any more.
