!! Wow, I had no idea people went so often. We went a few times when he was teeny (few days after, two weeks after, and one or two months maybe?), then six months, and he was doing really well, so the doctor suggested 18 months for the next checkup, unless anything came up or we had questions. However, we also do our vaccinations at a public health unit separately from well-visits, so we get weigh-ins and measurements there, as well as developmental checks. Maybe that's why.

The usual well-baby visits are at 2-3 days old, 2wks old, 1m, 2m, 3m, 6m, 9m, 12m... and on with the others. But we didn't have a doc with Elijah til he was over 7m old, so had none of the early visits. He has had ONE vax (the 2m dTap) and thats it til now. I need to schedule his 4m ones (he's 12.5m old lol)

I'm not sure if 21-month visits are standard in the US! Other than that everything is pretty much the same.

I guess I didn't think about a 15 month visit since we wouldn't be due for any vaccinations and didnt have any concerns.

Our per doesn't do 21 months, which I was sorry about. Our insurance doesn't cover sick visits but has to cover well visits under NJ law and the ACA, so its nice to have that chance to see an MD without paying hundreds of dollars

I just called our nurse practitioner's office and they said the new AAP guidelines dropped the 15 month visit, so they don't do them anymore.

E & M's doctor doesn't do a 21 month one and I think they're dropping the 15 month one too.

It's nice to not have to drag them back in another but um, I always really like to see the statistics and stuff so I'm a little sad about it.

If they drop the 15 month one do they just have you come in separately for the immunizations? or maybe they just separate the shot schedule a little more? We have had shots at I think EVERY appointment since he was born (other then his 2 day one obviously!) I think my pedi said we will have an 18 month appt and then 24 months (with a nurse visit next month just for his flu booster). I like to get the stats but otherwise it will be nice not to be hauling him to the doctor every few months. Of course, my respite will be short lived since I will have another baby by the time this one hits 24 months!

Wait, I just realized, thats my mistake. There is no 21m visit haha. We had one with Sam just because we did the delayed schedule and he needed one then haha.... So yeah after 18months, it just to 2yrs and then yearly.

The Magician is expanding his vocabulary with a ton of new phrases this week, like seventy percent of which seem to be crafted to make me feel bad. Like "Mama, come back please" and "Mama, come get me please" and "Mama, pick up, cuddle me" and "Mama lay down in bed (with) me". And oh my god, the plaintive PLEASE at the end of each of his "requests." Most of these are issued mournfully while he's falling asleep in his crib. It's making me a little bit crazy.

Aw. We have a lot of "mommy don't leave" "mommy stay please". He's been falling asleep in his own bed for awhile now, though, yeah?

A little over two weeks! And it has been going really well, up until a couple of days ago when he started with this bargaining/pleading thing. I guess now that we've been doing it a while, he's had time to think and this is his new anti-bedtime strategy.

Sleeping in his own bed is such a big deal, maybe it took awhile to sink in.

I'm getting a lot of, "no, mama do it," when I ask papa to do anything. Also, "gotta go to work," which breaks my heart a bit.

We do the hybrid of go to sleep in toddler bed/co-sleep when she wakes up in the early morning. The past couple nights I have turned over to stop nursing and instead of her freaking out, she has settled herself and gone to sleep without my help. Yay! As much as I like snuggling, I'm getting sick of nursing her to sleep every time she wakes. I hope writing about it doesn't make it stop.

We had a birthday party!

Image

We had 5 kids over and they were all so sweet, and played together nicely. The playdoh table was a big hit, and we danced and had snacks and built block towers. Walter had been asking for a robot cake, so here is what I came up with:

It definitely looks homemade, but it was so fun to make! And really delicious. I can't believe he's three!

Happy Birthday Walter! That robot cake is amazing. I hope you don't mind if I copy it exactly for poopieboy's next birthday.

Freya is two years old today!

Image

This is from a couple of days ago. We celebrated today with her two mates who were born the same day (we met in a childbirth class of 8 couples..amazing stats!). Once Freya got over the fact the "everyone" was playing with her toys (and we removed one special toy), a good time was had by all. Sharing is clearly not her strong suit yet. :)

She's changing so fast sometimes. This past month, she's really becoming incredibly more outgoing, talking to people at the park, shopkeepers, etc. She was flirting with one of the dads today (who she's only met a couple of times) and it was hilarious.

We measured her "on the wall" today..37" and a bit, just over 37 pounds too!

Ah, now, we are exhausted from partying. :D
