I can not imagine what that tooth situation is like, coldandsleepy. I hope you guys are through the worst of it.

No, #7 is definitely coming now as well. It is actually a little bit through. Just enough to bite with. I am putting this behind a cut because (I think) it's kind of a gross picture, but here are his 3 new top teeth (#7 is coming in just to the side of the leftmost one in the picture).

Holy shiitake! He is the cutest, toothiest, prestitoothinator in all the land!
May #7 be gentle on his gums and may you have a break before his molars start flying out there as an encore.

Is it wrong that I am jealous of all those teeth? We have been teething forever and still only have two! Go magician, go!
We hung out with pinko and Inez today!!

Good news: Toothpocalypse 2012 seems to be over for now. 4 teeth came through, bringing M up to a total of 7.
As soon as he finished teething, he figured out crawling for real and started making a ton of new consonant sounds. A crawling 5 month old... This is somebody's idea of a joke. The one good thing about it: E has figured out that the only way to keep M from getting to his toys and jamming them in his mouth is to put them away in the toy box. So he is actually picking his own stuff up. Amazing!
E is taller every damn day. Not a whole lot else new with him, except some sleep regression/bedtime drama. He's mostly wonderful most of the time though.

Yay! Carlos is almost in the 11th percentile for weight! Our PA was previously concerned because he was dropping, but he is up now from the 3rd! Also, she asked if we have any more questions and I asked "Is he cute enough?" She had a good laugh and told us he was super cute.

C&S, a mom in my postnatal yoga class has 5 month old twins who are crawling. I sure don't envy either of you. :)
So...Sven found his penis. Which is great, whatever, go nuts kid, except that's the first thing he goes for when the diaper comes off, and if that diaper is full of poop? Ick. He is so far not fooled by my pathetic attempts to preoccupy him with toys. I need advice!

If there's a way to keep little boys from grabbing their junk as soon as the diaper's open, I'd love to hear it too! I tend to just hold his hands and feet with one hand while I do a quick pass with a wipe in the other hand. Then once it's not covered in poo, I let him go to town.

My tactic is to try my damndest to get to it first with a wipe. Sometimes it works, other times, not so much. Henry is almost crawling, he's at the moving backwards instead of forwards stage, but he's lifted himself onto his knees and shot forwards a few times, too. He went in the water for the first time up in NH this weekend and I think liked it? It was hard to tell if it was frustrated splashing or very serious splashing. Also, he starts daycare on Monday, yikes! Where have the last 5 months gone?

We have a bedtime routine that works! Praise the Lard!
We read Llama Llama Nighty Night, and go over all the steps the Llama does - dinner over, tummy fed, llama llama time for bed! And at the end my husband and I have been letting her pick a book (its always Llama Llama Red Pajama so far), we read it to her, she nurses to sleep and is out. Our bedtime has gone from 3 hours of fighting sleep to an hour to 90mins. It is freaking magical.
One night she asked for two stories ("asked" ie banged on the book again and again after we were done reading), but for the last week, its been the same routine besides that and she loves it, and we get to bed SO FAST! Tonight we started at 8:30 (we had been out at a vegan potluck and she was down by 9!) I showered and everything! I am so psyched!
We also do Lllama Llama Wakey Wake in the morning, and that helps us get everything done to get out of the house, but its by far less magical than having a formula to get her down reliably.

Lucky Tofulish! I am jealous. Wolverine gets way to amped up with a book at bedtime. He loves books too much I guess. He has been going down easier for us though lately. I am glad Leela is taking to a routine! I think a lot of kids need that but sometimes it is so hard to figure out what will work.

Yeah, around here, books = total mayhem. The thing that is basically working for us now is quieter playtime in the couple of hours before bed (which is still happening midnight-ish), making sure diaper is changed before her usual bedtime window, and then as soon as the eye-rubbing starts, rush to bed, put the cuddle-hold on, and she's out in 5-10. Sometimes there is crying involved. We've gotten away from the bottle at bedtime, so that's an improvement.

Yay for Leela and sleep! We've been trying to figure out a routine, but she still hates the crib with a white hot heat (to sleep....she's digging playing there, stomping her feet like mad so that the mobile moves, for instance).
Do your 6-12 month olds take 2 or 3 naps most days? We're having a hard time with transitioning from early morning/midday/afternoon naps to just one at about 830 or 900 and then one about 130 (though she's sometimes sleepy earlier and then is beastly by like 5:45).

Leela takes 3 naps a day, easy - the first is generally at 9ish after breakfast, the second is just after lunch at 1 and the third is before dinner (at 5). Today was an all day off and on nap-a-thon, so I am dreading bedtime. When do the move to just 1 nap?

poopiebaby never took three naps. He used to take a mid-morning and a late afternoon nap, but he transitioned to one early afternoon nap around 18 months.

I don't think Ada ever had three naps. Maybe when she was really young? It was two for a long time and she started skipping her afternoon nap often in the last couple of months. This last week has been one long nap (some days have been 2-2.5 hrs!) in the middle of the day so I think we're finally at the one nap at 14 months. I'm probably totally jinxing the long nap now that I just announced it. I must also note that all four of her first molars have finally come through and we are getting a teething break for the first time so that might be helping with sleep.

That's great news about the rest from teething. We never have had three naps. Once she moved out of the newborn stage, we usually have a morning and afternoon nap. Sometimes it one long nap, like two to three hours.

Silas took 3 naps a day for a long time, then did 2 long naps, and finally transitioned to 1 nap around age 3. He's a few months away from being 4 and still takes a 3 hour nap every day (and sleeps from 8pm to 7ish am)
I did nurse him until he was almost 3, and he would stir to night nurse a few times at night until he weaned.

oh naps, i remember them and i still see them, about once a week although i do the whole naptime routine everyday and hope. my son is newly 3 and at mb 6 months, about when he started to crawl, he settled into a 2 a day pattern with a short one in the morning and a longer one in the afternoon. They got shorter and at a year they were down to ab 2 1/2 hours total. at 18 months he went to a single 2 hour nap in the afternoon and that has been getting progressively shorter. At ab 2 1/2, he did start sleeping through the night and at the end of may he abruptly decided to sleep in his own room, and hasn't come back to our bed except in the early morning. now we do the nap thing everyday and i promised myself i would institute a rest time but he doesn't seem to agree. Some days i get 5 or 10 mins before i have to spend the whole time escorting him back to his room. usually that's what i do for about a half hour then i let him jump on me or destory things while i read or just lay down and close my eyes for a bit so i can be semi-sane.

Carlos gets 2-3 naps now at 5 months. When he gets 3 naps, things go well. When he only gets to 2, not so much.

Today is Grey's first birthday! It is so exciting to see him grow and change everyday. He is super close to walking, he stands on his own, he waves, claps his hands, blows kisses, he can say mama, dada, hi, hello and bye bye. We go to the doctor tomorrow and will find out his height, weight etc. it's so interesting to see him grow up around other babies and to see how different they all are from their first minutes in this world. Grey is very curious and hates to be contained, he ants to explore everything while still remaining in arms reach of my boobs :)
