He just said,"I love you". Sure it was marbled, but both Nate and I heard it!

TZIPI IS POTTY TRAINED!!!! WOOHOO!!!
we have been on the verge for weeks and weeks. lots of potty interest, the occasional pee or poop on the potty, etc, but no real evidence that she was actually recognizing that she had to go, or interest in holding it, you know?
then, last week, we were reading this book about potty training over and over. she loved it and was picking up on all these subtleties in the illustrations and talking about them. and on friday she was home all day with me and we spent a lot of time sitting on the toilet (me and her both). except for the couple of hours we were out in the afternoon, she was in underwear, and only had a few accidents. a friend of ours with a potty trained toddler came over, and i think that really helped too. anyway, she was in underwear on saturday AND sunday, and only had maybe 3 accidents the whole weekend (including while out).
the real test was today and going to daycare, since she's so far refused to pee on the potty there at all. i sent her in underwear and a lot of clothing changes and much trepidation.
and when i came to get her at 4pm. SHE WAS WEARING THE SAME UNDERWEAR I SENT HER IN!!! and at that moment peeing on the potty. NO accidents all day, according to her teachers.
oh man, i'm so excited. it's early yet to claim potty training, probably, but she is improving steadily day by day. this afternoon when we got home she announced she needed to poop, made a beeline for the potty and pulled off her underpants. she didn't even have a diaper for nap.

i know, right? but 8 months is a huge big deal. 8 months ago, she had like 5 words and was still all wobbly and babyish in the way she walked and played... potty training wasn't even on my radar! now she's really such a big girl... i never realized how extreme the changes in development were in the 3rd year. i was so focused on the changes they go through in the first and second year (rolling, sitting up, walking, talking) that it just seemed like a big blur after they turned two.

Yay Tzipi!
Ada update. She is definitely full on toddler. Last week she learned how to get off the bed and couch herself. So no more morning snuggles. She nurses and is then like "thanks mom, see you later...I've got things to do" then climbs off the bed and runs to the door. And a couple of days ago she figured out how to climb onto the couch. She has also walked up a few steps without holding on to anything. She understands so much more now too. If I say we're going somewhere or talk about going anywhere or even say the word "go" she gets her shoes and brings them to me. If we say it's time for a diaper change she will go to the bedroom. If we say it's time for a bath she runs to the bathroom. And so on. She's also saying more words and tries to copy what we say. My husband was saying that it sounds like she is speaking another language half the time because she will just talk to us and go on and on like we know what she's saying. She also likes to walk around singing who knows what. It's super cute. Oh, she also picks up any crumbs she finds in the house and runs to the kitchen to put them in the garbage and then claps. And at the playground or park she picks up garbage and brings it to me. She's doing so many more things but it would take me forever to write it all out. I feel like in these last couple of weeks she really went through a lot developmentally. It's really quite amazing how quickly these little ones change. And I'm sure in two more weeks I'll be saying the same thing.
Edited to say that she has twelve teeth now! The first four molars are in. Now it looks like her canine teeth are working their way down.

Wooo Tzipi!
..and wow, Ada. Not to make you all sentimental, but she really sounds like she's making that transition from "baby" to "child". Love the garbage can clapping. :)

Yay! Carlos got into the daycare we wanted! He starts mid-August. It's a good thing too, since we had no backup plan. It's a 2-3 year wait list, so he's been on that list since before we even started trying to conceive! Crazy, huh?

Sven is six months old today! It's a big week for him. He started pushing up on his hands and knees and backwards-crawling, AND his first tooth showed up yesterday. It's exciting!

Hurray! Things get so exciting now, I think. There were times during those first 6 (well, maybe 5) months of Freya that I really wondered how I could possibly survive. Now, it's going by so freaking fast!

I will say the second six months were way better than the first six months! Congratulations Sven!

Pinko, happy half-birthday to Inez!
I forgot to post here that Malka took a tiny, bitty, tentative step on her own and then fell on her asparagus.

Yay Malka! Congrats on the first steps.
And happy half birthday to Inez. And happy half birthday to Sven too!
The Magician has gone from floor swimming to full on cross crawling. And he pulls himself up to standing on things now too... Especially on me. I'm his favorite piece of apparatus.
He is going through a truly awful mom-centric phase where he doesn't want anyone but me to hold him and he bursts into tears the moment I'm out of sight. This is so not how he's been prior to 1-2 weeks ago that I just don't know what to do. Blindsided!
The Emperor FINALLY learned how to jump at almost 3! He is so excited. I am so excited for him.

Scarlett is one month old today! It's really unbelievable how fast time goes by when you have a teeny baby. She seems SO big to us now! Every time I marvel at how big her head has gotten I think how happy I am that she was ready to be born at 38 weeks...

Carlos laughed yesterday for the first time! It wasn't a big laugh, more like a few chuckles with some peak-a-boos. But it was so cute! I am looking forward to more.
