yeah the dr said (i think) that if she's gonna have an issue it will probably present itself by month 2-3.
i interpreted that as by then we will know whether or not heart surgery is in the cards or if the holes are getting smaller on their own.

so by next winter we will know if she will need it or not.
if her breathing is still affected then im thinking it will be a good idea!

I had no idea there was an RSV vaccine and now I am pissed it wasn't offered to us. Malka had RSV at 2 months and it *sucked* - she almost needed to be hospitalized.

Good to hear about BabyPunk! I also didn't know that there was an RSV vaccine! RSV not infrequently sent our daycare babies to the hospital. One year, we closed the under 2 part of the center as a precaution. Scary stuff.

i don't know if it's just a cost thing or if there is another motive, but it is not commonly offered unless the kid has immune or heart issues [or some other cases listed on the site]. it's a complicated vaccine- one shot every month through cold season. For us that was October through March. One phial was good for something like 15# of so of body weight if i recall so soon we were doing two phials per kid per month [both twins were vaccinated as a preventative even though only one needed the protection; all parents/caregivers were asked to get flu shots and make sure our own vaccines were updated. after the chickenpox scare just after birth we all complied very happily]. Each phial, if I recall, was $3000 [and this was in 99-2001].

Updates!

My sweet, little Izzy had his 5th birthday yesterday! He's on to kindergarten in fall. He is growing up to be such an awesome person. It rained on his birthday, so we skipped the playground, and had a treat at Starbucks.
Image
He's been getting so much better with his manners, loves learning new things, and is so good at meeting people and becoming instant friends. (By the time I had brought his drink to the table, he was already friends with that guy in the background of the photo.)

Zeph is doing well too. He's almost 11 months old now! He can be pretty serious, but the last couple of weeks, he's just been crazy smiley and giggly. He took his first steps on his own on Mother's Day (how easy to remember!), and he is a master climber. He can high-five, and he loves clapping.

Happy Birthday Izzy! Such a happy, cute kid! Silas walked by and said "Hey look at that cool guy who lost his teeth and has the best hat ever!"

I love Izzy's outfit. Tell him I said happy belated birthday!
Beetroot is good at becoming friends with random strangers, too, it's hilarious. He used to be shy and now he sometimes will go try to sit by random people on the train to ask them about what trains they take to go to work and home.

She could also just be really thirsty. It's been in the 90s & humid the last couple of days & she's also on a diuretic for her heart

Just figured out that Elijah is getting a reaction from all orange foods... something about allergy to beta-carotene. (Booooo!)

I've tried carrots, sweet potatoes, melon and pumpkin with him already and he gets a bad chin rash, itchy face, grumpy and the poops. Ugh! Poor child!

Now I have even less foods I can eat and it makes total sense of why he's always so cranky and not feeling well and that neck rash he's had on/off since birth. Those consist of a major part of my diet ya know?

OMG, that SUCKS!! You just posted the most beautiful mouthwatering montage of food that your poor little one can't eat.

Is that the kind of allergy that is easily outgrown, though? I hope so. (I didn't know you could outgrow allergies, but my nephew used to be allergic to soy, dairy, eggs, and nuts and now he is only allergic to peanuts.)

allergies cycle every 7yrs, so you can get them and/or outgrow them at any time. It seems most do by 3yrs old from what I'm reading,...

and holy flying monkeys this also includes kale, spinach, collards and lettuce! Ugh, what do I eat now?

Whoa, that's a lot of problematic food! Clearly you can't cut beta carotene out of your diet, did you get him allergy tested or is this theoretical extrapolation from a known allergen? It might be good to do formal testing so you can see if some of these foods don't really need to be cut out.

he woke up this am in pain... and poop down his legs! (with cloth diaper and cover!). Turns out, my frozen-bought veggie patties from last night had carrot and sweet potato in them. Ugh!

We sang the alphabet song (a is for apple) and she kept on adding words that had the right letter. So she added "duck!" and "Dada!" when I sang "D is for dog" and added "Me" to "M is for Monkey and Mama." She also added "On and off" when we sang the O's and Duc-K for the Ks. It was precious and amazing. I can't believe she recognizes letters!

Also, she is so into sorting things now - she brings all the green balls to one place and all the red ones to another. And she loves her shoes, so she won't take them off.

Oh man, I love this kid and this phase of development. Its amazing.

Leela is crazy!

Will is now saying bah (ball), b-b-ball (basketball), geh-goh (thank you), eye (hi) and I think puppy, but it sounds similar to ball. He's still signing more and milk and has added please (which is him wildly rubbing his belly), poop (with no significance, so I don't know if that counts), drink, eat, bath. He blows kisses, gives hugs and kisses upon request, waves (on time finally)... All of a sudden he's becoming a social creature! He's on the verge of walking, taking a handful of steps here and there realizing he can actually get places when he does it.

I think that's it for now!
