Tell me what your kiddos are being and what you do about trick or treating and non-vegan candy.
Henry is being Batman, Zelda is being Robin, I am being Bat Girl, and Mikey is being Lex Luthor (at henry's request. we wanted him to be alfred).
Henry has also dressed up this week as- Superman and Hiccup from "How to Train your Dragon".
Henry is finally old enough to go trick or treating and really wants to. He solved the Candy Dilemma himself by telling me that the Great Pumpkin is going to take his candy and leave a toy. Thanks Henry! Great idea!

But without the religious Great Pumpkin trappings.

I went online and bought Luna some vegan halloween chocolates and marshmallow bats. That seemed like a good exchange. All the non-vegan candy gets sold to her dentist!

We have vegan candy ready for trading while we are out trick or treating. They are allowed to eat a handful of sweets. Once we get home, we trade money (a dime a piece) for the non-vegan candy.

We collect all nonvegan and peanut/nut containing candy and trade for vegan baked goods (this year I also have a couple of vegan chocolate bars). The remaining candy used to be traded for small amounts of money, but this year, the girls said they wanted to trade it in for a book apiece. I am hoping that this signals the beginning of a life-long love of reading, but I am afraid it reflects their knowledge that I am incapable of saying "no" to book purchasing.
I have a flapper and a mermaid.

I'm suddenly thinking Livi's costume sucks! Help! She wants to be a black cat so I got her a black velour track suit (shockingly cute in lil kid sizes) and she has a headband with hears and a pin on tail and I can draw on the nose and whiskers. Ideas? Help?

Ideas? Help? Why does that suck? She'll be supercute! (And it won't be a giant pain for you.)

I think it sounds cute too! and you can use that stuff again.
Henry's batman costume is batman pajamas because I got a two pack of bat man and superman pjs for $15 which was less than one costume he'd only wear once. It doesn't have built in muscles but he's tough enough. ;)
If anyone still needs a costume I went to toys r us today and their costumes are half off. I got henry a mario and zelda a princess peach costume for the future.

She is Sally from Nightmare Before Christmas. Sadly, I didn't get to dress up because I spent all of my time making her costume, wig and all.
As for non-vegan candy, we just give it to friends. We aren't doing trade-offs. Last year I got a bag of Smarties and a bag of Dum-Dums and we still have most of them. Plus, she is the most understanding three year old I could ever hope for, and usually asks about what is in her candy and happily gives it up. She was pretty sad that the gummies she got had gelatin so we did promise to pick her up some vegan alternative.

I'm pretty excited for the boys' traditional, homemade costumes this year. Zay is a mummy and Olly's a vampire.
