Hey friends....

I just found a small, hard lump on Miss Brie's back. I'm going to take her to the vet tomorrow....but damnit, I can't help but freak out a bit. I can deal with a lot, but something bad happening to Brie would be close to unbearable.

I know I shouldn't jump to conclusions.....does anyone have a story of having a lumpy dog sans cancer?

Can be all sorts of things, like fluid build up. Our springer used to get them on his neck or foot.

I know what you mean though--I had a complete freak out over Molly on Saturday. It all ended well and Molly is fine except for being pissed about having to take Baytril twice a day.

ETA: I'm pretty sure that cancer is very low on a very long list of stuff this could be.

My dog has ALL SORTS of bumps on her. Everywhere. She's quite the bumpy dog.

None of them are cancerous. She's just old and lumpy. Keep an eye on it and make sure it doesn't change or grow or turn weird colors, and get the vet to check it out for peace of mind, but it's most likely nothing to worry about.

How old is Brie? Every dog I have had has had bumps, none of them have been serious!

Brie is 7......rat terriers are supposed to live to 15-20.

Bah.....I can volunteer with dying children, work with street involved folks who have extremely sad life stories.....but just the THOUGHT of something happening to Brie makes me want to cry.

I have 2 lumpy dogs. I freaked at first too, but it turned out to be nothing. Hopefully Brie is just lumpy too. Let us know!

My dog has also gotten quite lumpy over the years from benign tumors. Hopefully Brie is okay!

Little Lil had lump, lumpity lump lump lumps for years - starting from when she was about 6, and she lived to 16. Some of them were growths that were removed, and were found to be non-malignant. Others were cysts. Some were just fatty lumps. Don't panic, because Brie will pick up on your stress and anxiety. Hope all is well xx

Cuddles had a lump. The vet said that it was just a fatty tumor and dogs get them all the time. Then it disappeared.

But I hear you on the fear. I was so upset when I found it, because anticipating all the parade of horribles that can follow a cancer diagnosis is pretty overwhelming.

My dog has lots of lumps! I do a super heavy duty freakout every time I find a new one. They are all benign. Mostly fatty lumps, except for one which was a benign blood vessel thingy that the vet removed. All the dogs I've ever had have started getting lumpy around 7 years old, and they were all fine. I'll think good thoughts for you and Brie!

My cat Mar has lumps - they are fatty tumors. When he had cancer it was a black gross rash...Bumps freak me out but they always seem to be nothing!

Bear has the same thing. After finding a second lump, the vet removed it to make sure and it was just fine. I'm sure Brie will be fine.

Any news on Brie? Pants is a lumpy dog too, we took her to the vet and it just turns out she wrestles too hard and had some kind of bruising that swelled up huge. The vet said that he sees lumpy dogs all the time and it's very rarely anything serious.

Tomorrow was the quickest appointment I could get with her vet. Geesh. Anywho I'll report back. Brie dogs must be healthy!

My little dog is quite lumpy. One of them started growing, so they decided to remove it, along with a few others, but all were benign!

we adopted Annie when she was 9 and she had a lump about the size of half a tennis ball on her shoulder. When we took her in to get her teeth cleaned they removed it, it was just a big sack of fatty fluid. My sister had a rat terrier that lived to 18 I believe and had probably close to a dozen of them by the time he died, none of them cancerous. Our vet told us if they grow very rapidly there's potential cause for concern but even that is not any solid indicator.

And Brie has......

a wart.

She needs a teeth cleaning and more eye medication....but nothing too scary!
