Carmela is having her second Immiticide treatment. She got one injection today, and will get one 24 hours later. The vet will keep her another day or so to monitor her. Then back to the shelter, and she will have to do another few weeks of cage rest (which I am sure she will not be happy about!).
This is her LAST treatment, so if she gets through this okay, she is home free and will be ready for adoption! She has come a long way from when she first came into the shelter!
Oh my god! She doesn't even look like the same dog. That video made me tear up a little. You guys turned her life around!

Oh my god, stop it. Seriously, or I'm going to take a zipcar up to MA to take her and love her foreverrrr. She is like a baby seal. Ahh! It saddens me that my cat is absolutely terrified of all dogs. And that I live in NYC, where properly caring for dogs is a massive undertaking.
What a LUCKY puppy she is. How amazing. You guys are incredible for giving her a chance. And she made it!!

Look how lovely and sweet she is!!!! You guys do incredible work. Like PP says, I went to the first page to see the before pictures where she looks anxious and worn and now she looks calm and relaxed. Amazing!! Hoping for the best!!!! <3 <3 <3

That is a great description!
I'm sure there must be a great home out there, who will take her in and give her all the snuggles she wants. Now we just have to find them! Can you imagine how happy she'd be sitting on a couch, cuddling with someone? Or sleeping on a real bed? She'd be the happiest dog ever!

I don't know anybody personally, but I shared it on FB and asked it to be passed along. She is such a sweet heart!

I would so adopt this sweet girl if I didn't live in NY and have a cat. I'm going to pass this along to my mom, who lives in Maine (and also has cats, but may know of someone in the area willing to adopt!). I want to smother this puppy with kisses.

Thanks! Carmela would love to be smothered with kisses. She just wants someone to snuggle her all the time, and she is very gentle. We think she would be a great dog to train to visit hospitals or nursing homes, because she just loves everyone and being petted by lots of people is her idea of heaven.

A local elementary school called us, saying they had done a fundraising drive for us, and asked if we could bring a dog to take a photo with them. Whenever you do a "meet the public" event, you need a really steady dog who is not going to be overwhelmed by a crowd, or startled when someone decides to do something like swoop in and kiss their face. Usually I bring Sable in for stuff like that, but I thought, "Why not give Sable a rest and bring Carmela instead?" So I gave her a bath and a pretty bandanna, and my mom and I took her to the school.
She was awesome. Like the best dog ever. Kids swarmed out of the school and immediately made a beeline towards her. Teachers were hugging her. There were priests, and priests are scary. Carmela was completely unfazed by it all. The teachers brought out a big laundry basket filled with donations. Carmela reached in, rooted around, and pulled out a bone. Then she looked around for a place to lie down, but she doesn't like to lie on pavement. So she tried to fit into the basket, on top of all the donations. The kids loved it. Even when a few children decided to run up and pet her while she was chewing the bone, she was fine. (This is one of the reasons you have to really trust the dog you bring to these events. People (not just kids!) will run up and do something stupid before you can tell them not to!)
They took a picture of all the kids and Carmela, and they are submitting it to a local paper. Hopefully it will get in, so more people will see Carmela (and see a picture of a friendly pit bull with a bunch of kids).

I was just thinking about her and wondering how she was doing. Thanks for this update, she sounds like a really great dog. I hope she finds a fabulous home.
