Anybody have any successful recommendations? Nacho just isn't the fruit and veggie eater that the Whippet is- frozen carrots are not recognized as food, he just looks at me like "are you INSANE?!?" I'd prefer not to have to give him carnage to chew on.
Happily, he's lost two of the four canines already and the damage has only been:
-one pair of flip flops
-all of our painting supplies in the shed (who knew?????)
-5 or 6 small towels (which i tie in knots and probably could soak in something yummy and freeze)
Bad news, only.... 21? teeth to go????

ETA: we have rope toys, which are good, and i bought him one of those super heavy hard rubber things (like kong material but it's a diamond) but he just doesn't chew on it. i suppose one day i will coat it with peanut butter and see if i can get him to do it.

My dog chewed almost exclusively on wood when he first came home, at around 6 months. Our kitchen table, chairs, and couch legs still look like a beaver tried to re-appropriate them to build a dam.

These things really helped:
Nylabone Double Action Chew
Rhino Puppy Teethe 'n' Tug
Flexible Dental Chew Bone
I think their texture drew them to him. He still gnaws on them from time to time, apparently when he needs a gum massage.

He also TOTALLY freaks out over naturally shed deer antlers, which we get from our local farmers market in the spring. They last forever, and he'll sit and happily chew on one for hours on end, but I'm genuinely not sure what the ethics of those are as it relates to veganism.

Chester has a sheet. Like a bed sheet. I don't know. It's big and hard to destroy in one go, he also likes carrying things around so he'll drag the dumb sheet throughout the house. He has kong toys too but he doesn't like them. I think the joy is in chewing through the thing, anyway.

so it looks like maybe i need to find something more spiney.
you know, i was going to write that he hasn't gone nuts over wood- i am sort of surprised, since the whippet demolished an entire futon sofa and part of the closet. but i'm not complaining!!!! noooooo sir! i guess we don't have that much wood- our furniture is metal and outside there isn't much wood available.

as for the antlers, that's definitely something i wouldn't be able to find, but i bet he'd go absolutely bonkers over it. A fallen bird feather makes him practically orgasmic, i bet an antler would be just the bees knees for him.

Can you find West Paw stuff where you are? I bought a Bumi (link: here) for my dog when he was a puppy and he loved it. He used to try to bring it with him when we went out for our walks. It's made out of recycled fibers and is pleasantly squishy for puppy teeth, but super durable. Neil (my dog) is a really tough chewer, and has destroyed many toys in the two years we've had him, but the Bumi has lasted.

this looks wild! unfortunately i've never seen any of the US brands here...(when you make the import tax 100% companies can't be bothered exporting here).... so it will have to wait til my next trip up north.

I caught three teeth yesterday... who knows how many he actually lost..... i wonder what i should do with the teeth? i'm thinking necklace.
