I hate my apartments. They are nothing but trouble, and I can't wait until I can finally move out of this dump.
We got a notice on our door today about a mandatory pest control spray. Today is the 16th and the spray is on the 18th. Very short notice!
I call and ask the apartment manager about the pesticides they are using... and here is the conversation.
Me: What kinds of pesticides are you using? Them: The same ones we always use. Me: I have a cat-- Them (rudely): Are you authorized to have a pet?! Did you pay the deposit? Me (annoyed): Yes I did pay that expensive pet deposit! I have a cat. She will be shut in my room during the spraying. How long will it be before it will be safe to let her out? Them: The spray doesn't have a smell. Me (as patiently as possible because my patience is running out): I am asking because my cat likes to play around the cabinets. How long should I wait before letting her near the cabinets? Them: I don't know. I'll ask them tomorrow morning. Me: Should I call and remind you to ask? This is very important. Them: No, I wrote it down. Me ( not believing a word she said): Thank you.
What do I do to protect my cat from the spray? How long should I wait before I let her play freely through the house again? I thought about having one of my friends to keep her for a couple of days, but her schedule is busy, and she won't be able to do it. Maybe I am just making a big deal out of this, but I am really, seriously worried. My cat has learned how to open cabinets and she loves to play inside them.
ANY advice would be welcomed.

Could you ask the apartment manager for the contact info of the company who'll be doing the spraying? That way you could just ring them yourselves and ask them all the questions you want, without having to rely on the unwilling manager to remember to make that call and actually give a shiitake. If you're lucky, they're just happy that they don't have to think about it anymore and will give you the info straight away. I'm sure it's not the first time that people rung that extermination company up to inquire about pet safety. :)
Good luck nonetheless !

This happened to me before. I talked to the pest control company and they actually suggested they skip my apartment and I happily agreed. Another time (different building) this wasn't an option so I crated the kitty and took her to my mom's for the day.
