I'd been talking with my partner about adopting a cat for a long time, and it was finally a good time to do it. My partner already has a young cat - about to turn one - so we went to a cat rescue place to get him a sister.

I met heaps of gorgeous cats (including the cutest little long-haired tabby who just didn't want to let me go! I wish I could've adopted two cats). But then I met this one, and was totally smitten:

First night at home! (She looks alarmed because there was a noise outside. Whenever she hears the dog next door barking she growls. She also growls at herself in the mirror, silly thing!)

She's settling in really well, eating and drinking and using her litter tray, and having lots of sniffs under the door with her new brother, who is very excited to meet her. She's a year and a half, but only a tiny little thing because she had kittens very young (obviously she's desexed now, and I think most of her kittens have found homes).

I think I'm going to call her Hester. I'm so in love! She's such a snuggly thing, although a bit timid about actually sitting on laps just yet.

Aww! Yay! She looks like a smaller version of my (gigantic) cat. I love the name Hester and I hope everything goes well when she gets to meet her brother.

She's totally adorable! I love the name Hester, too. My kitty does hilarious things in the mirror. He can't get over himself, he challenges himself to fights, he glares angrily into his own eyes, he tries desperately to get to the cute kitty he sees in his reflection to fight him, I think. I'm sure if he could speak cathuman, he would express to me that this is his greatest life's frustration--getting to that elusive kitty in the mirror. Hopefully Hester will figure things out sooner!

She's adorbs!!!!

I think she'll work it out eventually! She's growled at dog noises, lawnmower noises, and her reflection so far, so it seems like she's feeling a bit defensive generally. She's still pretty overwhelmed - wants lots of snuggles, but can't quite sit still and just enjoy them. I think she's worried that one day she won't have snuggles from me anymore. :( But that said, she seems to be settling alright and has been exploring all over my room.

When she decides to sit still for a bit longer I'll post some more cute Hester pictures. Right now it's a bit hard to get a good shot. I'm so in love, though.... she's currently kneading the air and rolling on her back for belly rubs!

Congratulations! You've been chosen!* Hester is a great name for such a pretty cat!

* I am pretty sure cats would say that humans never adopt cats, they adopt us and deign to show us their soft floofy bellehs and eat our food (even thought it sometimes means keeping us in line with a wellplaced scratch or puddle of pee. :) *

Oh, I totally feel like she chose me! Although (and I think I get this from my Dad), I tend to be one of those lucky people who most cats seem to take to quite quickly, so a few other cats at the haven were very friendly too! But only one of them was Hester, and I can only afford to adopt one right now.... My partner and I agreed that we can look at bringing another cat home in about a year, depending on how everything's going with the two of them.
