My friend had a dog named Ravioli (Rav). I liked it.

Leo was originally Ravioli "Oli", but my sister's Olivia so we had to change it.

My very first pet was a hamster I named Pizza-Bell, which is pretty awesome. I thought it was the most beautiful name ever when I was 6.

My cat is Caligula, which I think is pretty epic for a cat. At the very least, it raises eyebrows at the vets office.

Working in a vet clinic, I see a lot of animals come through with some pretty epic names. Examples:

Dr. Pancake (cat)
Mixtape (cat)
Optimus Prime (Tibetan mastiff)
Lucius Vorenus (mixed breed dog)
Bruce Wayne (tuxedo cat)

We also see some where it's obvious the person did NOT take their last name into consideration when naming their pets. We use an animal's first and last name together over the intercom, but sometimes we just can't bring ourselves to do it.

What are the best/funniest pet names you've seen?

My parents' gray tabby is named Optimus Prime! They call her O.P. for short.

My guinea pig, Prof. Barnaby S Falcor-Healey.
He came from a rescue where he was called Rodney, but that's my Dad's name so I called him Barney instead. After a while we figured he resembles Falcor from The Never Ending Story and that after a wash he looks like he has Dennis Healey's eyebrows. The 'S' is for Saruman. He also goes by Fat Haku (after Haku from Spirited Away).

i only name animals after food these days, it seems.

i had two guinea pigs that i got from a shelter. one of them was named kyla, which i wouldn't have chosen but didn't have a problem with so i left it, the other name i hated so i renamed her "lentil". the runner up name was falafel.

my dog's name is dagwood, NOT named after the comic but after the awesome sandwich at the chicago diner.

i would totally not think about my last name when naming an animal though. the first time i went to the vet i was totally surprised that they used my last name with my animals' names! animals dont have last names in my mind, they only need the one.

My god that guy DOES look like Falcor!
("Falcoooooooooorrrrrr!")

I once had the pleasure of naming a set of 4 kittens after Transformers: 2 Autobots and 2 Decepticons, in the hopes that they would grow up and wage war on each other.
I have a Junie B. Jones and my next baby will be a Prince Myshkin. Spend way too much time thinking these things up.

Ditto never thinking about my own last name; they get their own last names!

The best one I've met was Battle Cat.

We're studying The Brothers Karamazov in one of my classes and all I kept thinking the day we started was "Alyosha would make a great kitty name! I should get a kitty and call him Alyosha."

My ex named his cat Chairman Meow. The sad thing is: this guy is pretty intelligent, but completely full of himself. He honestly thought he was being original. Idiot.

My friend Julie's kids named her cat Crayon Marker. Also in the running was Trash Can. I love the names kids think up.

My roommate's old cats were Dee Dee and Mandark from Dexter's Labratory. Mandark had the most awesome full name, though: Mandark Jeebus Milhouse Mortimer Bucket 2000 Special Edition. Makes me laugh every time. Epic!

Our cat now is Mittens, aka Mitts. We didn't name her. She's a Havana Brown, and definitely does not have mittens.0000000000000000000000 (She just typed all the 0s, so I'll leave them there.)

I know someone who plans to get a cat and call it Chairman Meow when he's settled down enough for one. He's always going on about what a great name it is.

My brother wanted to get a hamster called Morpheus and I knew a couple of ponies called Dougal and Zebedee (as in the Magic Roundabout, but I always liked the name Zebedee).

My cat growing up was Little Baby Tippy Toes...no clue why, other than that my parents wouldn't let me name her Robin Hood, so that is what they got. I also refused to call her by any short form for the longest time...

I love reading all these names :) I wish I had gotten to name Benjamin, but he already knew his name when I got him...

My cat's name is 'Nub' as in 'Noobie'.

He fell down the stairs 2x when we picked him up from the pound. Winner!

Awww, Dr. Pancake! Too cute! All of my pets have names from the shelters I adopted them from (it was too weird to associate them with a new name) except for my most recent cat, Miss Booger Cakes. Her first name was Burrito, and then yeah. My mom sometimes refers to her as Burrito Butt. I also had a cat named Ketzel once. I liked that name.

I'm reminded of the This American Life story about the kids who were fighting over what to name their dog and finally their mom was like 'THE DOG WILL HAVE BOTH NAMES. THE END.'

Thus: PizzaBatman.

This sounds like something my partner and his brother would do.

We had a rush of people dumping cats and were worried about running out of names, my husband is much better at animal naming than i am...

He's named :
Mally - A rouen duck who looked a lot like a mallard before getting huge,.
Ignatz - A very small female tuxedo cat
Skeezix - Ignatz' brother who had to be put to sleep due to FIP.
Longey - A very long bodied torti cat who two timed us and left us for the neighbors.
The Cow- A once feral cat who we were finally able to catch coming in the cat door, now that he's neutered he's the most housey-house cat we've known.
Mr Duck - A Peking duck who moonlights as a comedian
Mrs. Duck - Mr. Duck's life partner
Muskover - A nasty muscovy duck.
Little Storm Trooper- A female muscovy who helps Muskover with his evil ploys
Kitten - Our first cat, the original, she is so gentle and polite, she makes the other cats all look like jerks.

I've named :
Bootsie - Male tuxedo cat
Mitsy - Botsie's wife, obviously.
Alice - A super friendly, cuddly vietnamese potbellied pig.
Maisy - Alice's evil and mischievous sister.

We've also got a cat named Pita (apparently that stands for pain in the a.., had i known that when we got her, i would have probably thought of changing it... but we at least know why she has that name, she likes to pee in inappropriate places)
And lastly, Bella, a shelter dog who keeps the rest of the critters in line. She is the best dog ever.
