People seem to get a kick out of the fact that I have a cat named Gershwin. That was his shelter name and it just seemed to suit him so well. Same with Tristan, it was the name chosen by the rescue and I couldn't imagine him having another name.

My new kitty's name is Leia. That's what happens when you let a five year old Star Wars nerd name your pet. I like the name, though. I used to have a solid black cat named Zombie and an orange striped tabby named Nemo, which was funny because it was before the movie.

One of my dogs is named Pandora which I think is awesome.

My cats' "official" names are Apollo and Athena, but my fiance insisted on calling them silly things that essentially ended up being their real names. We only use Apollo and Athena at the vet's office. At home we call them AutoGato (Gato for short, which is spanish for cat), and Beepo. People give us such strange looks when they come over and we start calling Athena "Beepo."

My parents would never let us have a dog growing up, but my sibling and I used to always say that someday we would convince them, and we would name the dog Stellaluna after our favorite book. Well, after I moved out, she convinced them...so now she has a dog named Stellaluna.

I'm glad that I'm not the only one who hardly uses her pets real name.

My cat is called Moos. (Short for Mozes, rhymes with Joe's.) But most of the time, I call him 'snotje', which is Dutch for 'mini-booger'. (Yeah, I know, the stuff that's in your nose.) It's because in Dutch, the word 'snotje' can also refer to a snotty, rather nosy, spry child. And living with Moos is pretty much like living with an over-nosy 3 year old. :)

We have a Kayla (female cat). I picked the name, totally random and not really awesome. And we have a Pluto (male cat) that was picked by my husband and is totally awesome. Pluto was the name of the cat in Edgar Allen Poe's the Black Cat, and our Pluto is solid black. But lately we have been calling him our rescue panther, after that home security commercial that has been on.

I have a Spot and an Emmett. Spot is a Star Trek TNG reference, and Emmett is after the little cartoon from Ladybug Magazine called Molly and Emmett.

In the past I've had Louisa May Alcatt, Barbara Bush (a very fluffy cat), Macbeth, Othello, Hamlet, Dr Jekyll, and Mr Hyde....

In no particular order...Cats have been Sally, Jess, Zebedee, Guinness, Mr.Tibbs, Princess and baby girl (real name Luella)

Dogs are Pedro and Phoebe (Bebe) and our family dogs were Carrick, Rex and now Minnie and Sherman.

Guinea pigs were Wicket (like the ewok) and skinny man.

Basil the rabbit

Roger the rabbit

Sam and Jim the hamsters (Jim was the best forking hamster ever.....I rescued him as a hamster no one could handle as he bit everyone but a few months of patient training and he was the sweetest hamster ever, he would even sit on my shoulder)

Then there were Clarence and Alabama the Russian hamsters.

Jemima my Aylesbury duck

Les the chameleon

Yeah so pretty much all human names.

I saw a dog on a rescue site named Gob and I really hope it was an Arrested Development reference!

I know this was years ago, but a cat named Pandora would be even better, what with cats an boxes.

My cat's name is Punk. I found this thread by searching for pets also named Punk. At the shelter, her name was Trouble. She's pushing ten and she absolutely still owns her names. :o

Here she is:
