So my cat has an ulcer on his cornea, probably from a trauma, not from herpes.

Anyone deal with something similar?

Poor Veto. Of course, I feel like a jerk because I noticed he was having a hard time but took about a week figuring it wasn't a big deal and I couldn't get my life together enough to get him to the vet.

Yay! Happy update for now. The vet thinks it isn't infected and will heal up on its own, we just need to watch it. Of course he had to be sedated to be examined, because he hates the vet with a burning passion. And while he was down we had him shaved so he is now matless. And it was all just $250. Thank goodness for healthy kitties and the occasional non-bankbreaking vet bill.

My kitty Liebchen had this, but hers was from herpes. Her eye never did heal but the vet treated it with assorted drops for a year or so before telling me it had healed as best as it was ever going to and it was time to discontinue treatment. It didn't seem to make her uncomfortable, like she didn't rub the eye a lot or anything like that. I'm glad that Veto's isn't infected and everything went well.

Our vet is really sane. He said "you could take him to an eye specialist, take out a mortgage on your house and figure out exactly what it is, or you could just see if it heals on its own and deal with it if it becomes an issue down the road." Which I really appreciated. If we'd gone to the pricey vet hospital, they'd probably have had us do a consult with the eye specialist just in case etc.

I'd still ask the vet some eye drops or especially eye ointment to reduce potential scarring (which makes the cat see less clearly). They probably still let you drop by to get them without bringing your cat back
