I have a "gift" of being able to make up songs about cats for any situation. Almost every day, I sing a song to my cats, using existing popular songs and "enhancing" them with new cat-themed lyrics.

Today I brought home a new bag of cat food, so this little diddy to the tune of "TV Party" by Black Flag came to me:

We're gonna have a kibble party tonight!
Tonight!
Eat our kibbles from a dish on the floor tonight!
And every night!
We've got nothing better to do
Than eat some kibbles and turn it into poo

ehehehee. my spouse creates and sings songs to our dog & kittehs. cracks me up every. single. time.

me, i usually sing the same song to them - a song my grandmother used to sing me:

(__insert their name here__), come out and play with me,
and bring your dollies three
climb up my apple tree
slide down my rainbow
knock on my cellar door
and we'll be jolly friends
forever more.....

omg, it's slide down my RAINBOW? that makes a lot more sense than what I thought my grandma was saying, "slide down my rain barrel." I thought maybe in "the old days" people had a barrel to catch rain? wow. I've been singing that wrong for 25 years!

I do that too!
to the tune of I'm Yours by Jason Mraz:
I won't eat Sharpeis no more, no more, they're pets, not food, I'm suuure...
They say Sharpeis are a delicacy, but I don't wanna eat em no more you see, because those Sharpei puppies are love, love, love...

Satellite by Dave Matthews (when Tai was in the cone of shame)
Satellite, Little Dog, why are you trying to gnaw? don't you know that you shouldn't?

both of these were collaborations with my BFF.

I just realized the way I sang it was climb up my rain barrel, slide down my cellar door. Probably just different versions.

totally different variables.

When we sang it at summer camp it was
CC my enemy
come out and play with me
climb up my poison tree
and bring your dragons three
slide down my razor blade
into my dungeon door
and we'll be enemies
forever more, 1, 2, 3, 4!!

we whistle, not sing, a few things to the cockatiel:
the indiana jones theme
the mexican hat dance
whatever baseball/hockey fight song we can think of at the moment
the scooby doo theme

[i sing nothing to my dog except the occasional John Lee Hooker song because that is just so up his alley.]

We sing to the dogs, but nothing particularly fun. Just singing their names to random tunes, mostly. But still makes them happy!

I sing "Good Thing" by Fine Young Cannibals to my cat. Especially helpful when he's hiding somewhere. Will work for any pet with a two syllable name!

Pet's Name!
Where have you gone?
Meow meow mew mew!*
Pet's Name!
You been gone so long!

*If you have a dog, Bow wow roo roo would work just as well, yeah?

I sing the spiderbite song by the flaming lips to Dinger all the time "I was glad they didn't destroy you, how sad that would be cause if they destroyed you, it would destroy me"

I used to always dogsit for a dog named Ozzy. My roomate and I could get him to howl by kind of singing an instrumental from Star Wars (the song that plays when Luke is looking at the twin suns I think it's called Skywalker's theme) any way it was really fun.

We also make up lots and lots of songs that we sing in his voice because we're nuts.

No idea how it started but my husband's favorite song for our pup is Rhodie the Christmas poo.

I'm sure there are others but this is the one that gets us weird looks from our friends.

Whenever the kitteh gets into lick mode (either licking herself or my bf's beard), we sing "Little Pink Tongue" to the tune of "Dirty Old Town". I know there are a lot more (we always seem to be singing to the kitteh) but that's all I can think of at the moment.

I used to sing my two dearly departed girls a song from The Producers -

Tea-time for Pudder, and Muckerbee,
Becky and Steve are their slaves.

Pudding also used to get this to the tune of Money Money Money by Abba -

Puddy Puddy Puddy, she's my buddy, she's a piggy, yeah

I also sing 'Found A Peanut' to my guinea pig, Peanut.

found a peanut is the best song. i always loved that one & i love that your peeg is named Peanut. <3

i almost forgot - i sing notorious b.i.g.'s "hypnotize" to our dog, julie. i just sub in her name and i also "fancy" instead of "flashy". not that julie is overly fancy, but i think she's more fancy than flashy. she loves it.

Eep, all these songs are making me feel squishy. So cute!

I love how much the kitties love being sung to. It makes them all gooey and lovey and they look at me like I'm the best singer.

The most common song is for our overgrown Sheltie, Chance, which is sung to no particular tune that anyone knows. It goes:

"Chancy pants, he does a fancy dance"

My kitties love being sung to/talk to. When my younger cat hears me talking, he often comes running over as if he wants to hear with I have to say. When I read poetry to them, they stare at me with mushy eyes and sometimes they come right up to my mouth and sniff as if they're curious as to where those word-sounds are coming from.

I was singing a song about brushing my cat's teeth yesterday to the tune of what song I can't remember but it went something like: "time for a good boy to have his teeth brushed/he's such a good boy/for lettin' me do it/and staying still/I know its a pain/but he puts up with it cuz he wuvs me." I sang it twice too (one for each cat's tooth brushing session) but I can't remember the song I retooled the lyrics to. Oh, well, I sing to them all the time. Whatever song is on the radio, I'll just make up new words to.

I don't know all the lyrics, but my dad wrote a song (with guitar music!) for one of our dogs

the only line I know for sure is 'her name is Hailey girl, the best do-ooo-og in the world.'

When my dad breaks out his acoustic guitar, she lays down right at his feet and clearly loves every second of it.

if I start singing anything to the dogs, they usually start looking nervous/annoyed (my singing is really, really awful), so I just talk to them.
