My old lady dog is the first dog I've ever had with this issue. It's pretty hardcore- she has to have them expressed every 5 weeks and I have been told by several professionals that hers are particularly difficult to locate and express. I am more than happy to part with my money in exchange for letting an expert handle it!

Strangely enough, my other dog is the smallest and hairiest I've ever had (10 lb schnauzer/wirehair doxie mix) but she has no problems. In more than a year since I've adopted her, I've never seen her scoot!

An anal gland story as told by a vet at the link below. Not for the faint of heart. I laughed and cringed at the same time.
My cats occasionally have anal gland exudation at inappropriate times/places, but it hasn't happened in a long time. Now that I've shared this info, I am sure that we will have an episode tomorrow.
