My local shelter gets a lot of HW positive dogs, many from other shelters who can't afford to test and/or treat. The vast majority do just fine with treatment.

aw, i'm sorry! i hope it's not that and he was just having a chilly day or something :( good luck. Sending lots of love to you and Bogey!

Maggie ate the rest of my glucosamine bottle... We were trying a lower dosage of her medication, but going to up it to the medium dosage that the doctor said to go to if we noticed any symptoms coming back. That was a fun call yesterday to the vet to see if the gluco would harm her but luckily it was the end of the bottle.

Winston is doing good now, his stomach troubles subsided.

Some shithead decided letting fireworks off outside our house would be fun and I am so proud of my babies for handling it like a boss. Granted, Pedro was pacing for a while but they both settled in once they knew it was going to go on for a while. I can only imagine it feels like the world is ending if you're a dogling.

Seriously, I thought we were over vet visits for a while but guess not. Maggie started limping yesterday and it appears to be her front leg. I didn't see her do anything that could've hurt her but taking her to the vet as she was limping this morning.

Yeah, it's awful. He's had surgery and they said his spinal cord is damaged :( He's being sent to a specialist for physio but the outcome doesn't look good.

Poor Sherman. I am rooting for him. :(

Mavis has been in Uber-Vigilant Guard-Dog mode lately. I assume since she's not getting any exercise or activity because of her heartworm treatment, she's bored, so she's gotta get her kicks somewhere, but I wish she wasn't getting them in the form of barking like a maniac at 4am because some guy is walking down the sidewalk, minding his own business. Any little sound from outside, and she goes OFF lately, and she will not be persuaded to stop barking until whoever made the sound is several miles away. She's never done this before now and it's driving me bananas.

She goes in for round two of her treatment on Friday. I cannot wait until she's all clear to go to the dog park again where she can run and play and wear herself out. I'm spending like half my take-home pay on bones to keep her occupied.

So Maggie had laser treatment for her shoulder on Monday when we went to the vet, we scheduled an appointment again for today for laser treatment. We go to the vet and Maggie shook her head (she shook it yesterday, my husband cleaned her ears). Since I was there, I had the vet look at her ears. She has an ear infection. Poor girl can't catch a break.

GAHHHH I'm just going to post it here. I went to pick up my cat and she had a dangler and it wasn't small. How could she not feel that?

Good thing we love them, poopy butts and all.

I posted fb already. Our Macaw is sick. We don't have a diagnosis test but has a mass in his trachea. None of the possibilities are good. Praying it's not cancer. We can't lose another family member. He is comfortable and eating right now.

We've just started and already over $2300. We will be making budgets so we can cover anything he needs, but that's scary too.

Poor Maggie, I hope she gets a break soon. And sorry to hear about your Macaw, LW. I'm glad he is able to eat and keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Mavis had her double-shot heartworm treatment Friday and this morning. I think they usually keep them two nights, but since tomorrow's Sunday, they didn't? Regardless, she was not herself when I picked her up. She was happy to see me, and happy to get in the car, but when we got home, it was clear she was not feeling well.

But she took her pills and ate her dinner just fine. She went outside and then wanted treats when she came back in, so she's getting back to her normal silly happy self.

Aw, I hope Mavis gets better soon.

Bigby ate a piece of a chicken wings off the ground. I got most of it away from him and then I called the vet who said to feed him bread and rice to sort of cushion the bones. I'm taking the day off work tomorrow to watch him.

My best chicken friend, Lipton, passed away in her sleep on Saturday night. We don't know why, but she was a battery hen and they are prone to all kinds of reproductive cancers and health problems. I miss her so much, and right now we have no chickens at the shelter (all the others were adopted) and it's so sad! I looked forward to visiting the chicken pen every morning. I would always save my kitchen scraps and leftovers to bring them. (And yeah, sometimes I would cook food specifically for Lipton. She deserved it.) I really wish I lived somewhere with enough space to keep rescued chickens.

Also every time I see pictures of dead cooked chickens now, it's like 10x more upsetting to me, and it was already pretty upsetting before.

Oh no. I loved the photos of Lipton sporting her halloween costumes. Chickens make such special companions.
I hope it is some comfort knowing that you were able to give her such peace and joy after a bad start in life.

Thank you. Lipton did have a very adventurous life for a chicken (how many chickens get to meet Santa?). She was near death when she was rescued, and I'm glad she got to enjoy two years with us. She was happy and playful right up to the end.

I have a new chicken friend! But she is very sick and has a broken leg and a wound (possibly hit by a car), and I'm worried that she won't make it. We're trying everything we can to help her, and I'm trying to think good chicken thoughts. She is a really nice chicken.

Oh no! I hope your new chicken friend makes it, rc. Chickens are awesome.

Nola has a lump on her side. It's her rib area and very moveable so I think/hope it's just a lipoma. But it just seemed to pop up all big one day. Although, it is right around her ribcage so it's possible it just felt like one of her ribs when it was smaller. Going to the vet in a couple of days to get it checked, so fingers crossed!
