Hi, all. As some of you may already know from other posts, the dog I share with my ex, Molly, passed away today after we gave her loving goodbyes. I wanted to post here because many have commented that Molly felt like a PPKer herself, and I realized with a bit of a shock that I had recently joined the PPK when I first got her, so the PPK has quite literally been there for me through my entire time with her. So she does feel a bit like an honorary PPKer!

Molly was already a crotchety-ish 8 year-old when we got her. She belonged to a friend's older sister, who had come across some hard times, and needed to find a new home for Molly. I was the first person my friend thought of, and for that I'll be forever in her debt. We took Molly home almost 8 years ago. She was very unsure of why her aunt and grandma were leaving her with these strangers and I remember her taking a few days to get really comfortable. With my ex, however, she took months to get comfortable- it literally took almost a year and me leaving the country for 3 weeks for her to finally feel okay with him. But when she did, she was rewarded with the most undying affection and love I think a dog could ever receive on this earthly plane. My ex loved her so very much, she was his world, and my heart is broken almost as much for him as it is for myself. But it was the right time, and she made it clear she was ready to go.

Of course it's tough when anyone you love is gone, but with a pet it's hard in a different way because there's so much you can't say. You can only hope they understand. You can't help but feel enormous guilt for every time you were mad at or annoyed by them, ever, or any time you might have nudged them out of your way. I'm trying not to let those feelings creep in, and remember the happier times. I know that her last lucid memories of me were me giving her love.

I found some of my favorite photos of Molly and wanted to put them up to remember what a sassy little weirdo she was. One thing is for sure and that is there will never be another dog quite like her!

My first photo of Molly: August 4, 2008

I got this about six months after adopting Molly. She had a way of growing on you, fast.

And of course, her old PPK pic (this is how she got her internet privileges revoked):

Finally, a short film of Molly in her heyday, tearing it up and raising hell:

Wherever she is now, I hope she's chasing squirrels and eating seaweed.

Molly was a sweetheart <3

I'm so sorry you had to say goodbye, it's heartbreaking. You gave her a great life when she needed you though, that's all she would have remembered <3

Thank you, everyone. I have a big pile of used tissues from all my crying but then it made me smile, remembering how Molly used to love tearing up tissues and toilet paper, and how we had to hide all our used tissues when we had a cold! Little rascal.

I am having some prints made of her right now (damn digital age), because I got terribly sad when I got back home and realized I didn't have any prints to put on my altar next to Millie, who passed last year. I still lit some candles and told Millie I loved and missed her, and to keep an eye out for Molly and give her a loving welcome.

I am so sorry for your loss. Molly was such a special girl, and definitely a PPKer all the way. I loved your love for her, and how much her funny little personality made her a unique, quirky and delightful being. I hope your memories of joyful times together bring you comfort as you grieve.

I wish I could hug you and make you tea and share memories of your sweet girl.

Thanks so much for your kind words, everyone. It's been a tough weekend, but my ex, his gf and I have all been really supportive of each other we kind of helped each other through the worst of it. Of course, Biscuit and Pepper were invaluable tools in therapeutic recuperation, as well! I picked up the prints and somehow having them in my hand was immensely helpful in reassuring me of her happy, love-filled life, and the memories started flooding in of all the good times, even in the past few weeks, where she was old and frail but lucid and spirited and still undeniably her.

This is my favorite at the moment- it's on my fridge and every time I feel sad about her I look at it to remind me of how happy she was:
