We take our three dogs on a nature trail that's being neglected and is getting overrun with poison sumac. It gets on the dogs hair and eventually gets on me and I'm highly allergic to it. So now I'm sorta covered in ugly red spots and taking meds for it. (all three dogs sleep in our beds too and yes I've washed all the bed sheets).

My question is other than giving our dogs a bath and washing the sumac off the dog's hair what other ways can I make sure to get the sumac oil off? Washing three dogs everyday is kinda not an option, plus our biggest dog would need a professional bath, she's too big to fit in the bathtub and she goes crazy if I wash her outside with a hose. She thinks she's being punished and she's afraid of those outdoor hoses. (we're not her first owners so I don't know what's with the fear she has of them.)

I was told by one person to use a combination of vinegar/water to wipe the dogs hair to get out the oils? Does anyone know of a way to neutralize or wipe away the sumac oils?

Thanks a million to anyone who can help. I'm going to call Whoever's In Charge of the nature trail and see if I can get someone to spray or somehow get rid of the poison sumac. I don't mind a little on a trail but it's taking over and I'd hate to not be able to take my dogs there. They love the place.

You could try some dog/baby wipes to clean them off. I'm not sure if they would get all the oils off, but would probably do a better job than just a damp cloth.
