Ugh. I may not be able to keep fostering these babies :(
The only room I have to keep them in (that will keep them away from my freaked out resident cats) doesn't have a window for an air conditioner-- just french door that open up onto a porch that wouldn't be safe for them to go on. I thought I could rig something up with a baby gate & cardboard so the door to the room could stay open and it could get some air flow, but they have climbed everything I've tried. And fans aren't keeping the room cool enough. Tonight a few of them were panting and I freaked out. So now they're roaming the rest of my apartment, which is cooler. But that means my resident cats are locked in my bedroom. That's okay for tonight, but really can't be a solution.

I emailed the foster coordinator to see if she had any ideas... but it's not looking good. :(

I keep looking at their photos ... that Violet ... she looks to be thinking 'do not mess with me!' with her paws firmly on the ground holding a defiant stance ...

Could you post a picture of that room you had planned to keep the kittens in? I'll see if I can think of a way to keep it cool. Would it be possible to staple chicken wire across the door, plus a protection at the bottom so they don't hurt themselves trying to crawl under it?

do you mean the door to the porch? anything that goes over the door to the rest of my apartment needs to be able to open easily, so i can get in there to feed them/hang out/clean.

i don't have a pic right now, but basically its just a room with a door leading to my apartment, and a set of french doors on the other side of the room that opens onto a porch.

they're still panting now that they're in the rest of my apartment, but its because they're running around like wildasses.

Yes, I meant the door to the porch.

Can you hire a portable aircon or stand fans for a couple of weeks? If you need a couple of bucks towards it, I'm pretty sure the PPKittyKatKlub would chip in...

Maybe someone local can lend you one of those air conditioners that doesn't have to go into a window?

I think what I'm going to do is borrow an AC from a friend, and put it in my bedroom, and just make my bedroom into the kitten room. It's not ideal for a bunch of reasons (that room isn't kitten-proofed yet, there isn't much floor space for them to run around, I'll have to sleep on the couch, etc.), but I think it's the only way they're going to stay cool.

Staunch and clever! That's one talented kitty.

I hope the a/c situation works out!

This isn't a long-term solution, but if you're waiting on a machine but you have a fan and access to ice, blowing the fan over a big bowl of ice helps a little bit.

My brother saved the day! He brought over an AC and we put it in one side of the french doors that open onto the porch, and cardboarded up the rest. That's great because now the kitties can stay in the designated kitty room and my resident cats can have free roam of our home again, AND I don't have to sleep on the couch! WIN/WIN/WIN!

The kittens, however, are throwing a fit over not having free reign on the whole apartment anymore. Sorry babies!

I love that her Chronic Bitchface is replaced with Blissface when she sleeps.

I'm so glad you found a solution for them! I selfishly want more adorable kitty pictures.

Oops! Sorry I forgot to keep updating!

The kittens all went up to the adoption center on Friday, but Vanillope couldn't stay up there because there was a little blood in her poop. So she's back at my place. I haven't seen any blood since she's been back here, but a stool sample has been taken to the vet, and if it looks good she should be heading up to the adoption center this week.

They're scheduled to stay up at the adoption center for two weeks, and if any of them aren't adopted by then I'll get them back for a bit while they take a break from the center. At this point, they have been with me WAY longer than I anticipated when I offered to do this, and I could use a break for sure-- so I hope Vanillope can head up to the center this week. I love them all so much (and, whoa, CUTE!), but they are SO MUCH WORK and need SO MUCH ATTENTION.

I'll try to post some pics tonight. :)

Ahaha, kitties take up so much time and work! We are all just vicariously enjoying the spoils of cute pictures.

I'm going to be fostering two more kitten babies starting tomorrow. All I know is that they are medium-haired tuxedo sisters.

ARE YOU READY?!
