I have a vegan pooch on Natural Balance. She usually has stools that are brown and then yellow on the inside. I've been noticing some shiny white in her stool-mucus maybe-lately? The rest of the stool seems normal, so it's a little perplexing and I don't think she's the type of dog who would indicate whether or not she's hurting if she was, which is unfortunate. Does anyone else have this? She shows no other concerning symptoms.
When noticed white in my pup's stools, it turned out to be bits of a tapeworm. Yummy! His flea pills were supposed to cover heartworm and other worms, but the vet told us that they cover all worms except tapeworms. So maybe that? They weren't moving, which is why it took me a minute to figure it out, they just looked like bits of mucus, like you described.
