I can't even imagine how hard this must be for you right now. You're a wonderful kittymommy, and I know Bill knows that. I hope you can find some comfort and solace in all the great care and love you have provided him.

I'm so sorry esme. It's an awful place to be in. You are doing the best you can for Bill and it sounds like the right decision. Sometimes, even with lots of extra $$$ on hand and few have that.. we can end up prolonging the life of our pet, but that's not quality time.
I was in the same boat early September and had to put down my wonderful had been so incredibly healthy, 9 year old kitty. I had gone as far as I could financially, prognosis was very poor even before the recommended ultrasound. The x-rays showed her left kidney was obstructed and huge, she was in acute renal failure. I could not afford further treatment, would have gone into the thousands.. It all happened so fast.

Take care. yeah, this is pretty much what's going on here (minus the diagnosis of something concrete). but it's like he was fine a couple weeks ago and then BAM! i'm so sorry for your loss. right now we are just hanging out. he's been sleeping next to me most of the day as if nothing at all is wrong. he's kept down his food so far. i just have no idea when or how hard he's going to crash and that's what's torturing me. if he was showing any signs of pain or suffering, i'd have him to the vet within 15 minutes. but he's just chillin. he's weak and he looks sick, but his attitude has been good all day. thus, we wait. thanks again, everyone. it really means a lot to me and my bean.

I'm so sorry esme. It did make me smile when you said Bill had the most adorable insides when you saw his x-rays. When I saw Kizzy's x-rays, I thought the same thing "ZOMG, even his insides are cute!" <3 <3 <3
I don't know about the money, but I do know when my cat Liebchen was in the vet, I think it was only a day or two and I'd racked up two grand between investigations, blood work, care. No x-rays though. I don't know, vets are crazy expensive but when they're sick and a chance you can help, I know how it is that it doesn't seem to matter, you just want them well again...

Poor Bill. That's how it was with X-box, the vet made it sound treatable and then $500 later and a week of giving him antibiotics and fluids they were like, "Oh, he's forked no matter what."
