Today while walking in a park in SE Portland, my friend and I came across a group of ducks. One had an injured leg and was clearly in pain. We called some animal rescue organizations, located a bird rescue/wildlife center , and upon the advice of the rescue center, found a box and towels and . . . tortilla chips (closest thing to bread at the convenience store nearby). The area was fenced off because they are doing some work on a pond there and we couldn't get in. One of the people working on the pond came over and was able to get hold of the duck. He lifted it over the fence to us and we drove it to the wildlife center. They think the duck (who I named John Travolta because he danced quite a lot in the box) is going to be fine with treatment, and its leg is not broken which was our initial fear. It turns out that it is a domestic duck and that park is a common "dumping ground" for domestic ducks. Because of this, they won't be able to return it to the park, but they don't expect to have any trouble finding it a home. I donated money for his (her?) care and they said I can call in a few days to check in on him. While we were there, we got to see kestrels, a beautiful owl, and a peregrine falcon. A good day!

That is one lucky duck that he was spotted by you. Hooray for duck rescues!
And people suck for dumping him. My coworker used to have a whole flock of domestic gooses that were abandoned at a local pond and they were seriously the friendliest gooses I've ever met.
