Omg you guys.

Image

He* has trouble walking. His body sort of sags (you can see he's being held up by his special harness here), and if you look closely, you can see how his nails have been worn down and the fur on his toes has been rubbed off. This is because when he walks his paws knuckle under sometimes. On slippery floors his legs just slide out from under him and he falls down. But the saddest of all is that he can't wag his tail.

He's going to the vet on Monday and hopefully we will get a diagnosis. We had a pit bull a year or so ago (Mr. Wobbles) who had similar symptoms was diagnosed with degenerative myelopathy. Mr. Wobbles was adopted and is still doing well, and hopefully the same will happen for this guy.

Seriously, look at that face. It is so smooshable. And he snorts when he is happy!

*We don't have a name for him yet. I threw out everything from Dali (because he's melty- when he tries to stand up, his body slooowly sags back down) to Mr. Shuffles (because of how he walks and to go with Mr. Wobbles), but no one can decide on a name 100% yet.

What a sweetie! I like Mr. Shuffles, but I think because the name makes me think of Mr. Snuffleupagus.
I love snorty happy animals - people included.

Widdle baby! Maybe it's better that he has trouble walking, all the better to prevent him from getting away from snuggles. Which is like my #1 gripe with mobile dogs.

Oh my God, Oh my God he is soooooooooooo cute :)

Years ago I briefly fostered a cat with a type of feline epilepsy - and we called her "Weebles" (as in Weebles wobble but they don't fall down).

She was eventually adopted by a vet's practice as an office cat.

I thought about Weebles, but this guy actually does fall down!

My friend used to petsit a cat that I nicknamed "Wobbly Cat". I don't know what was wrong with her, but she didn't have much control over her limbs and couldn't walk in a straight line. I loved her. She was the sweetest cat ever. She would be determined to run over to you, and since she couldn't go in a straight line it would take her several tries, but she never gave up!

When I volunteered at a shelter there was a young cat like that. I totally wanted to take her home. I actually convinced my husband we should adopt her (I was afraid no one would) but when I went back to the shelter the next weekend she had gone home to a good home. I was so happy for her. SHe was so cute and such a sweetheart!

My uncle had a cat with mobility issues. He named her JJ, short for jiggle joints.

Mr. Shuffle Feet/Pork Chop in action (he has so many names! Not too fond of the unveganness of pork chop!):

I thought his vet appointment was today, but it's tomorrow. Hopefully we'll know something more then. If it's a degenerative disease, it will get worse over time. If it's something he was born with, he'll probably stay the same. It's also possible he has a cyst or tumor pressing on his spine (we had a dog with that once), which could be relatively okay (a benign cyst that doesn't grow), or could be not so okay. We all have our fingers crossed for positive news!

So Mr. Shuffle aka Chopper had an MRI today. He has a cyst pressing on his spinal cord near his neck. It's not causing him any pain and the vet thinks he was probably born with it. It's possible it could grow and cause more problems, but it's equally possible that it will stay as it is. He'll just always be a little wobbly and can't wear collars that put pressure on his neck.

He also was neutered and got his shots, and the vet estimated him at about 3 years old. He just needs his heartworm test and then will be ready to go! Anyone looking for a wobbly puppy?

Video we took just before he went in for his MRI:

He has actually improved a little. He can wag his tail a little (it's kinda like a slo-mo wag) and he can run, although you can see he is hopping with both his back legs at the same time. I think it just makes him cuter though.
