My cat Tiffany has been really strange lately. He is obsessed with tofu. Whenever I open a package he starts whining for a piece. I gave him a piece finally and I think I've created a monster. He loves it and wants to eat more.

This isn't the first time he ate something strange. I roasted asparagus a few weeks ago and he climbed on the counter and dragged a spear off the plate and ate it all. A few days ago he ate another piece of lightly steamed asparagus (I gave it to him) and a piece of roasted zucchini.

What weird things does your cat eat?

**(FYI I got paranoid that cats maybe aren't supposed to eat certain veggies and googled. Apparently there are a few things they shouldn't consume, like chocolate, onions, garlic, potatoes, green tomatoes, and a few other things. Be careful feeding your kitties!)

Neko also eats asparagus! She also loves lots of other "human food items" like bread and some other veggies. One time when she was little and had to eat nothing but special kibble (that she hated) because of a stomach bug, she stole a seitan-crumble-stuffed tofu burger and ate it as if it was the best thing in the world - so I get the tofu obsession, kind of.
Kaylee loves pumpkin, and I've seen her try pureed spinach, but apparently it wasn't a hit.

Lola loves soy yogurt and V-dog dog food. She gets a dog kibble when the dogs are fed. She also loves rubber bands. (we have to be really cautious about them)

A colleague of mine says here cat loves Belgian endive (Dutch: witlof). In his enthusiasm, he once bit her fingers really hard because he didn't notice that she was still holding the piece of endive.

Our cat also likes carob and chocolate unfortunately. She even licks cocoa powder from the flour if I spill some. She goes crazy over tartex paste and loves seitan and tvp flavored with nooch.

My previous cat would gnaw whole cucumbers and scrape the flesh of leftover melon peels until they were paper thin.

one cat doesn't have much interest in human food except cantelope. it's funny because he's the really human-oriented cat. the other pretty much avoids having anything to do with us, but will steal just about any kind of food that's left out. oatmeal, toast, all fruits, tofu, any soft food like yogurt, smoothies, soup... she'll taste just about anything.

they both do love their melon though. i can't even buy it anymore without them whining about it every day until we finally cut it open.

My one kitty loves tartex and nooch. He goes crazy for them.

My other kitty loves pickle juice and ketchup chip seasoning.

Neither one have expressed an interest in veggies, though!

There is an amazing video of ameyfm's cat Yummers eating a full stalk of asparagus online somewhere. Oh! Found it. I love it so much.

Puddy is really into wheatgrass. We've only had her for a couple of weeks, so I hope she expresses interest in something weird.

Butters liked tofu. Bear loves lettuce, and I mean loves it. Especially romaine and green leaf. She will crawl on my lap and stick her paws all over my plate until I rip off a little piece for her to eat. If I walk away and leave my plate unattended, I come back to lettuce all over the floor. Kinda gross, but cute.

Loulou is obsessed with lettuce and other greens. She once knocked over the salad spinner so she could go to town on its precious insides. She also likes to hoover the crumbs off my plate after I've eaten bread (or during...).

Luna isn't interested in people food except for pumpkin, she loves that stuff. She does also like to roll around on my wood cutting board if I forget to put it away. Weirdo.

Laptop loves pumpkin, popcorn (he stole it, I wouldn't give it to him out of fear he'd choke), peanut butter, carrot cake with cream cheese frosting, and he likes to lick apple slices.

So Tiffany also likes frozen chopped spinach after thawing - I discovered this earlier while mixing some into cashew tofu ricotta. I'm actually toying with keeping some steamed veggies around to give him as snacks.

He's really weird about food and goes crazy for the hour before we give him his meat food. We got Tiffany a few months ago when his previous humans moved out of the country. They feed him Whiskas wet food once a day and he has a small bowl of dry food available throughout the day. We also give him some dry treats every now and then. I really want to change his food, but he's super sensitive to changes and gets very stressed, which manifests in his behavior and through stomach distress (vomiting, diarrhea). I've been researching foods, but have yet to get anywhere other than super expensive stuff. I know Whiskas is shiitake, but it's what he's on at the moment. Giving him veggies might tide him over more in waiting for his dinner, but I'm also worried about spoiling him with "people" food or somehow affecting his nutrition negatively, though more veggies can only be good, right?

Oh and my cat will lick any dirty dishes we leave out so I have to put everything away. She is crazy.

I had a cat who loved cooked tomatoes. He'd creep the dirty dishes looking for the big chunks I'd pick out of spaghetti sauce.

My sister had a cat who wasn't interested in people food at all until you opened a bag of chips. She could hear a bag of chips being opened from anywhere in the house.

Spot never ate people food at all, but when she was an itsy bitsy kitten she got ahold of a Taco Bell wrapper and got all hissy and fluffed up when we tried to take it away from her. Hilariously cute.

Tiffany also likes micro greens. I had some lightly dressed over homemade pizza tonight. A few leaves were left on the plate and he gladly ate them. I feel like this is turning into some sort of Late Night with David Letterman game. Will he eat it?

Spot loves Cheerios and popcorn... but I usually put onion powder on my popcorn, so I try to keep him from that unless it's plain.

can I include non-food? Because one of our cats will eat the handles off any plastic bags if they are left out for more than 15 minutes (she'll throw them up later...yay!). We have a rigorous system established to put away any plastic bags after having her for 8 years now.

My parents joke that my kitty would willingly be vegan. He goes crazy over avocado. I have to keep him in a separate room when I slice one. I haven't actually let him eat it because I've read different things online and I don't know if it's safe.
He also loves leafy greens. He stole a stalk of collards once and would not give it back. He likes to eat fresh lettuce when he can get away with it.
His favorite thing, though, is licking my oatmeal bowl clean.

That reminds me of one cat I had who would eat curly ribbon off parcels. We had to quit using it on any gifts we wrapped if we weren't going to keep them locked up in a cupboard. One day he was acting really sick and was having trouble pooping, so my mom wiped his butt and in doing so pulled out a REALLY long ribbon. It was naaaaasty. We felt lucky that we were able to get it out though without having to take him in to the vet. He also would try to eat pins. He could hear me drop pins on carpet from several rooms away and come sauntering in for a sharp snack.

Luna is crazy about Earth Balance. Absolutely crazy. Whenever my guy is eating toast, she is on his lap, wrapping her paws around his hands, pulling the toast to her mouth.

I will never miss an opportunity to brag about the fact that we accidentally trained Gozer to sit at the table if he wants food. This is a soy curl.

Image

Obviously he doesn't get much, but he will eat so many things that he has no business wanting. Rice. Watching him try to eat rice is hilarious. Most cooked veggies. Tofu.

Also he has no shame about stealing, so if we don't make him sit down and constantly swat him away, this happens:

Gozer! That is awesome shameless stealing. Lady M is a big fan of EB and nooch. Once she got really into a bowl of tomato soup, but only once.

Tiffany doesn't eat plastic, thank goodness, but he does fall madly in love with the handles of plastic bags when we bring them home. He rubs his face all over them and can't stop himself.
