Dogs Deserve Better is a great anti-chaining/penning group. They rescue chained and penned dogs, train them, and adopt them to new homes. They also fight to pass anti-chaining laws. Now they want to buy Michael Vick's "Bad Newz Kennel" and turn it into the "Good Newz Rehab Center"...taking something evil and turning it into something good.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/michael_vicks_former_bad_newz_kennels_could_become_haven_for_rescued_dogs/2011/03/17/ABvVeWp_story.html

They have raised over $142,000 so far but need to raise another $30,000 before they can get a loan to buy the property. They're working very hard and they are all volunteers. They're taking donations here: http://www.dogsdeservebetter.org/ddbcenter.html.

Some of the neighbours of the property are opposed to a rescue center because they have "hunting dogs" that live chained outside. Ugh. I guess they were okay with a dog fighting ring there, but not a rescue? Also, fork Michael Vick for being out there making millions while groups like this struggle to save dogs.

I'm so glad Michael Vick supports this and we were able to find out via his publicist. What a stand-up guy, huh?

Yeah, totally, how nice of a millionaire animal abuser to state that he supports animal rescue. Really, what more could he possibly do? Ugh.

And "resuce" in the title = rescue. I am so incredibly bad at typing.

That is an awesome plan. DDB is a great group. I'll definitely be making a donation!

I work with a great group of animal lovers, dog lovers in particular. I'll send out an e-mail. Thanks for posting!

Just an update on this: Dogs Deserve Better was approved for a loan, and they will be closing on the property on Friday. This is great news! You can follow them on facebook here or on their website. They're still seeking donations, so please spread the word if you can.
