i love nutrisoy. and i have had too many bad experiences with pureland to be happy with it. has anyone else had (several)bad weird off slimy batches of pureland tofu?

The ingredients look the same, but I've seen the Omega one sold elsewhere (like at Coles and my health food shop) so it can't be a Woolies-owned brand.

I find the green organic tofu a bit hit and miss. I usually end up getting that one, but sometimes it has weird holes in it and breaks apart too easily. I like Nutrisoy if I'm going to fry it, but I don't like it as much for baked tofu. I don't actually mind Pureland (it's been slimy a couple of times, but so has the green one- I just rinse them and they're fine), but I guess I'm in the minority because I hardly ever see it around anymore.

Yeah that's what I buy. I have a tofu sad right about now.

The classic tofu is the texture of thickshake and the firm Woolies brand costs as much as local stuff, I'd rather buy that.

I just checked Woolworths online and discovered the Macro firm tofu costs $5.38 for a 300g package! I'm seriously considering switching to Coles, especially as I can get tempeh from Coles too, whereas none of the Woolworths in my area stock it.

Veglicious, thanks for the warning about the Macro classic tofu... it doesn't sound too appealing at all!

I haven't even checked Woolies for tofu yet, I've pretty much just switched back to Coles (where I was still going once a week for tempeh anyway). Or I'm buying tofu in bulk from a much more vegan-friendly supermarket in the city. I really need to be an adult and figure out this whole 'grocery shopping once a week' thing.

I am *SO MAD* about the Woolworths tofu range.

Absolutely bizarre. Ridiculously expensive. Options from memory were "bean curd", "classic tofu hard" "silken tofu", "momen" and "silken". All in tiny water tubs (so you can't really tell texture), and expensive. And they were pretty much all SOFT - even the one that was marketed as for stir fries. I don't know what they are/were thinking!.

I'm definitely swapping to Coles, especially since they stock tempeh (woolworths don't), and now they stock Fry's.

That's crazy!! The big 700g block of nutrisoy costs about the same!!

Does anyone still buy the Pureland smoked tofu? It used to come in a 350g block (I think) but now the only smoked one that seems to be available is the Blue Lotus one which is pretty pricey & a smaller block.

thinking the same as everyone here. i saw the price of the woolies hard tofu and almost had a heart attack, lucky my veganism keeps my cardiovascular system healthy. and yay, i saw fry's in coles. and not just schnitzel and "chicken pops", which is all my local woolies ever has. bad move woolies, baaaaaad move. now if only coles would start stocking whittakers chocolates....

I sent Boyfriend out for silken tofu the other day, so I could make the cheese from Vegan Diner. He went to Woolies and came back with 'extra soft' silken tofu. I needed firm silken but I used it anyway, and it turns out that Woolies extra soft tofu is pretty much the same as extra firm silken tofu from Coles. It was a plus for me, but definitely not what I'd expected from the name! He said it was priced really well, too. It was a 500g package and he said it definitely cost less than $5. Maybe our local Woolies is some weird anomaly, or maybe my reputation of tofu-related wrath precedes me and they knew better than to price it too high.

In my local at least, only bean curd and hard tofu are $5 and the others are $2.50, which is why I was so pissed that the classic was not useful at all for my regular purposes. I assume they are more expensive because you require more beans to get a firmer texture.

ETA: On the plus side, I love the Moroccan burgers, and the smokey falafels were fine for a pull-together lunch.

The Moroccan burgers are good! We went to a barbecue on the weekend and took along some of the Macro tomato and basil sausages (which are exactly the same as the old Eatwell ones... did Woolies buy them out or something?) but our friends had already bought the burgers so we would have something to eat. They were great and we got sent home with the leftover ones, so they're on the menu for tonight!

I *THINK* the select brand After Dinner Mint chocolates at Woolies are vegan. They're with the boxed gift chocolates in the confectionery aisle.

I bought some of their Walnut Cream Cheese the other day and it is amazing. I also treated myself to the Black Forest Gateau which goes really well with Coconut Ice Cream. It is super expensive and i'm sure it's stuff people here could make but I appreciate the convenience and it was just nice to see some new things when I was at the Radical Grocery Store spending far too much money on Bratwursts.

Speaking of which, the woman that works there has rescued a sparrow and it was sat on her shoulder the whole time she was serving me, so so so cute.
