My phone wouldn't let me post but I ended up going to Turnpike really early, leaving and then getting sick and going home. So close.

Sorry we missed you! I was trying to check the thread late morning and the PPK was down. Then it came back up and posts were missing from other threads so I didn't know if you'd posted in here and it disappeared or what. (Also I couldn't access your PM with your number... which I will go answer now.) Anyway, lousy time for the PPK to be down. Pinko and I were talking about the next meetup. We both think that after the holidays we need to try to plan something far enough in advance that everyone can come and we all know what's going on. Hope you're feeling better anyway.

After the holidays would be lovely. Also, I want to do a highline thing with the 21+'ers sometime.

Would you guys recommend a car for getting around Seattle? We're thinking of staying Downtown but it looks like a lot of the food places we want to check out are up in the U-District, we also want to go to the Museum of Flight. We'll be hiring a car to get to Portland anyway but we're not sure whether to get it at the beginning of our Seattle stay or at the end.

Definitely don't need a car to get from downtown to the U-District. Lots of buses go between the two. Not sure about the Museum of Flight - it looks a little further out. Maybe get a car for a day or so in Seattle to hit up some of the less transit-friendly destinations?

According to the King County Metro trip planner, there are buses (or... there's a bus?) between downtown and the Museum of Flight. I think the bus might take as long as your time in the museum.

Awesome, thanks. I think this confirms that just getting a car for the last day or two when we want to go to the museum (& the Boeing factory!) is the best plan.

I have a busy conference in Seattle in early-mid February for a week. Could anyone provide me with a suggestion about where to stay downtown? The conf is headquartered at the Sheraton and it's $$$ and I'm not so flush. I want comfortable, quiet, no bedbugs.

I don't know jack about downtown hotels. I mean, I live here so I've never needed to stay in a hotel... I'm pretty sure SweetT has posted some hotel info in the past, so you might check with her.
