Hello DC! I haven't been to you since I visited GW 8 years ago.

My boyfriend is coming to Americker in the end of August, and I planned a big reunion for all our friends for the main weekend he's here (8/26-8/28). Well. Well. Most of our friends have moved to DC, so they are having us come to them that weekend. (This is not making me happy.) Please tell me what restaurant we should have the big group dinner at on Saturday night. ALSO, please go to said restaurant and look for me (we can plan beforehand/I'll tell you what I really look like) and we can pretend it was unintended and then we'll have to ask you to join us! Yebop.
Also, please tell me where to eat for every other meal, too. And what else we should all do there besides eat.

I'm not sure which restaurant to have the dinner at, but you should go to Sticky Fingers for breakfast on one of the weekend days, and go out to Rockville to Yuan Fu at least once. You should also eat at Soul Vegetarian for one meal.

I don't live in DC, so this may not be the best advice ever, but I like Cafe Green (I'm not sure if there's enough seating, but if so, it could work for your big dinner. The service was super slow when I went, but the food was good) and Java Green (for lunches). Sticky Fingers is awesome, you definitely need to go there!

Aw, shucks! I won't be here! How adventurous are the eaters in your group?

I work in dc and I'd like to meet you, unfortunately I'm not good at being sneaky, so if someone asked me directly if it were a set up I wouldn't know how to respond. The suggestion I came here to offer was to maybe go to a restaurant that's really a bar (asylum?) because bars are better for accidental joiners.

Haha :) It's ok to be unsneaky. Is asylum good for vegans and nonvegs? Any other suggestions?

Java Green is nice.

I haven't been anywhere else other than Sticky Fingers and Yuan Fu.

Almaz Ethiopian on u street and 13th. They will let you use the upstairs for large parties, they don't charge extra and it will be private.

Asylum is definitely good for vegans and nonvegs. When I lived in DC, I went there a lot for brunch with friends, since they've got a ton of vegan brunch options and also a lot of non-vegan ones. If you do go for brunch, though, it's usually best to get there right when they open, since there tends to be a wait later on.

I feel like I recommend this often but Busboys and Poets may work. I've been there with a group of 15+ and they had a table for us. Good for vegans and non-vegans alike. However,if there are foodies and they are looking for the foodie fair, maybe not the best place. Not fancy, but good food nonetheless.

No, no reservations. If I remember correctly we called earlier in the day telling them that we'd have a large party coming and they told us to call back about 1/2-1 hour before we arrived. I believe we went to the 14th and V location. They have a room that isn't always used for seating and they were able to put together a bunch of tables for us.

I went to the K street bus boys on a Saturday night from 6:30 to about 7:30 and there were tables to spare for the duration.

I'd also highly recommend Everlasting Life (http://www.everlastinglifecafe.com/menu.html) -- not for the big dinner, but at some point. They have a hot bar with things like vegan fried chicken and amazing shepherd's pie, plus a cold/raw bar with salads and things. And the best cinnamon rolls, I'm completely addicted! I love Sticky Fingers, but Everlasting Life's cinnamon rolls are much better.

Ooh thanks akasha! I am a sucker for cinnamon rolls.

Does anyone have experience with Teak Wood, a Thai restaurant and Zaytinya, a Greek restaurant? Friend suggested them but I don't know if we're close enough so that she knows I'm vegan. I'm looking at menus but it's hard to tell if the vegetarian stuff would be veganizable.

Ooh nevermind on the Zaytinya. Looks like the least friendly Thai restaurant menu I've seen yet.

There is a Thai restaurant near china town that is pretty good but I can't remember the name, Meghan or dbtk might know. We went there when Meghan was living in dc and pandacookie came to visit.

Oh I think it is this place
http://kanlayathaicuisine.com/

Vegdc.com says they have 30 veg dishes, most of which are vegan.

I've been to Zaytinya a bunch of times, and they're really good about telling you which stuff is vegan and/or can be veganized. And it's small plates, so you can try a bunch of different things.
