Oh no, not at all! Anek (from Italy/Germany?) was there for this meetup and I think everyone was fine with speaking English. Like Paloma said, the more the merrier :) so I hope you'll be able to make it! And early June sounds good!

Plus, some of us are native English speakers. :) (I'm half Dutch and speak it relatively fluently, but grew up in the US, so English is my mother tongue.) I haven't met the other NL/Belgium based PPKers so I don't know who's a native Dutch speaker or not, but I got the sense there were at least one or two other native English speakers here too. And I've rarely met a Dutch person who doesn't enjoy speaking English.
Like Bonnie and Paloma said, the more the merrier! Looking forward to meeting some PPKers IRL.

Looks like I was incorrect in my assumption, thanks for saying I'd be welcome! I'd be travelling from the Midlands in the UK. It might be my privilege in being able to speak English fairly well, but I'd take the option of meeting a new person over the 'inconvenience' of not speaking my native tongue any day. :)

Hello lovely Netherlands friends - I'm crashing this thread in lieu of there being a Dutch forum...
Is there a vegan version or equivalent of frietsaus?

Google tells me frietsaus is just a low-fat version of mayonnaise, with 25% fat, but most (all?) vegan mayos I've seen have at least 50% fat. I don't know if there's a much of difference in taste? In any case, I've never seen vegan frietsaus anywhere, but I'd say regular mayo is a good substitute! maybe you could add a little vinegar or lemon juice as frietsaus is supposed to be a bit more sour.

Thanks, guys. To me, frietsaus tasted very different from the mayo here in the UK, and I miss it! Thanks for your help.

I see! I didn't even know there was that much of a difference between the two. And I've gotten so used to my vegan mayonnaise that I'm not sure what it tastes like compared to the regular Dutch kinds, so yeah, I'm no help. I did come across a website that suggested mixing regular mayo with a flour/water slurry in order to get frietsaus, but uh, not sure how appetising that would be. But if I ever see a vegan version (or recipe) I'll let you know!

Hooray! I love it when more Dutch vegans appear! Too bad you're all so far away from Groningen - but yay! I love meet ups. I hope I can actually MAKE this one. (0 for 6?) Let's set the date asap so I can work my university schedule around it. Today's guess is that Wednesday will be better than Thursday.

I'm in Belgium pretty much ever other week, so I'm definitely down with that proposal! (Did I really just say "down with that"?)

No idea where that came from. I don't think I've ever used that expression before in my life. I'm not sure if I'm too dorky to say "down with that" or if saying "down with that" just made me even dorkier, but there's definitely a dork factor in there somewhere.
Anyway, meeting in Belgium sounds awesome too!

Awesome I have a few Dutch friends who are vegan-curious. I'll share this with them. I wish you had this a while back when I was at a windmill trying to get some glutenmeelpoeder. Now I can finally seitan, but it was a long journey.

I'm here now! I go back on the 6th. Staying near the central station now, and then moving to the Flipper hotel on Friday.

I live pretty close to the Flipper! I'm in Belgium until mid-May, otherwise I'd say let's meet for coffee.
