It's still pretty far away, but I should be able to make it too! All your ideas sound fun, I can't wait! I've only been to the Bolhoed once but I'd love to go again. And I don't go visit Amsterdam very often so I'd be up for some touristy stuff as well.

Oh and I found the address of the shop that sells Mexican products in case anyone wants to try and find ingredients for Viva Vegan recipes (I think we talked about that last time): http://tokowijzer.nl/2011/09/16/tjins-toko-amsterdam/

And I'm glad you liked the No Muh cheese too, Bun! If we happen to be near that place again I'd definitely like to try more of their products.

Tjins is great. I haven't been there in years.

Where did you guys pick up the No Muh last time? Was it perchance the Biomarkt on the Weteringschans? We should definitely go there if we get to that area! It's my go-to place for a shit-load of vegan goodies: No Muh, Cheezly, Wheaty, Redwood, etc. Plus stuff like vegan Worcestershire sauce and mayo, organic tamari and shoyu, and these spreads. Their selection is soooooooooooo much more extensive than any other natuurwinkel or Eko Plaza I've been to.

So far I've booked the week off, but not flights or a hotel.

I've complicated this by asking my parents if they want to come with me to Amsterdam so we can make it a family holiday as well and maybe share an apartment. Anyone got any tips on good places to rent a self-catering place for a week?

Thanks, there are some nice looking places on there! Just sent a link to my parents to approve and then going to book. Exciting!

Well there's a restaurant in Rotterdam I really like called De Oude Plek (http://www.deoudeplek.nl). We should go there. Rotterdam meetup? We could also have another Den Haag meetup and go to De Hagedis for the cashew fondue again? Or do both very soon!

I have been to The Hague pretty recently, I'd prefer going to Rotterdam. But I'm not sure if I can come away that often in the near future, so I'll let you know whether I can get my asparagus over when there are more details and/or a date.

I love de Oude Plek! Just a heads-up though: the last time I checked many of their dishes weren't vegan anymore because the vegetarian chicken pieces they use now contain milk. They do still have other things that are great and vegan like tempeh & tofu dishes but as far as I could tell there weren't nearly as many options as they used to have. It's really sad because I love that place and used to go to their buffet almost every month!

It does! :( of course the recipe may have changed again since then, but the labels on these meat analogues aren't always very clear.

I did have a tempeh dish with Chinese spices there that was amazing as well, so I'd still recommend the place! but I always loved their buffet which used to be almost completely vegan.

Does it make sense to ask one of the Dutch speaking folks to call and ask?

You guys! Tell me the best things to do on my other days! I have been spying on the other current Amsterdam thread too. I am there from the Tuesday noon until Friday 5pm-ish. I found somewheres cheap to stay (thankyou so much lovelies, for the offers, but this seems to make more sense on a practical level!)- it's in De Pijp area I think. Are there things I can do in the evening by myself? Is it safe to do so? Last time I went anywhere abroad on my own was in Berlin in the winter and it was dark at 4pm and I got scared and just hid in the hostel most of the time, haha.

You're fine, sweetie. In my experience, Amsterdam is not unsafe to begin with. There's just a couple of places you might want to avoid if you're sensitive to being surrounded by drunks and/or rowdy people. Stay away from the Warmoesstraat/Zeedijk/red light district area and maybe the streets surrounding Leidseplein too. Those are the most touristy, coffeeshop-ridden, stag-and-hen party type streets anyway. I tend to shy away from those myself just for that reason.

What about taking the tram to one of the arthouse cinema's and see a nice movie? The english spoken ones are subtitled anyway, so you're fine watching one of those.
