I was there late September last year, and some people had reported seeing some. so maybe there's hope?

I lived there for a couple of months (reyjkjavik) and have traveled around a couple of times as well. It's not hard to be vegan, and if you have a kitchen it's even very easy! Go south, go to Snæfellsnes and go to the west fjords. Or at least one of them! Reykjanes peninsula is also beautiful and not as far.

I've never been, but the woman who writes the blog Oh, Ladycakes is vegan and they went to Iceland recently. It looked absolutely amazing!

It's different species of whales in the winter, DI.

I just booked flights for a 9 day holiday in Iceland, leaving on Tuesday! I'm very excited - looking forward to some whale watching and Northern Lights, and hopefully a bit of exploring beyond Reykjavik too. Not booked accommodation yet (if anyone has recommendations I'm all ears) but thinking of following the advice above about staying somewhere with a kitchen.

Does anyone know if there is anywhere in Reykjavik where I can buy a vegan lopapeysa (Icelandic knitted jumper)?

Bumping this! Imogen, did you ever figure out where to buy a vegan jumper? Has anyone spent any time in Akureyri and if so, what did you do while you were there?

I want to try to visit Akureyri when I'm there too. I'll probably have to go in the summer, which is a bummer because I really, really want to see the aurora.

There is a pretty good subreddit on traveling to Iceland that might be worth checking out.

I have an Icelandic lesson tomorrow--I can ask my tutor for suggestions about Akureyri.

Thanks, LW! If you could ask about Akureyri that would be so awesome. I have some ideas, but it's always helpful getting other people's opinions as well.

I asked, but he said he has only been there a few times, so he didn't have much to suggest other than its a really pretty town. It's probably too early to see the Northen Lights, but if not, it's a great place.

Well cool! Yeah this will be early on in Northern Lights season, but still possible to see them on the right night. Fingers crossed.

I'm super jealous of your trip!

All of the dates I'm off work are super expensive blackout dates where the plane ticket alone goes up over $1000. I can't afford that, especially when I have no idea how much, physically, I could even do. I'm still hoping to go this year.
