Post subject:  Great vegetarian experiences in Carribean?

My fiance and I are trying to decide on the best location for our destination wedding at the end of this year. We love food, so obviously we would like a veg friendly place with more options that salad or wraps. We don't eat eggs, milk is ok. Can anyone share any experiences they've had on what islands might be good considerations?

Thanks in advance. :-)

Barbados has a lot of great vegan options and many different places. Even the grocery stores carry frozen vegan products. The only downside is there isn't a ton of local fruit and vegetables because of the focus on sugar cane.

I've stayed on the Caribbean side of Costa Rica in Puerto Viejo and found it very easy to eat vegan there because of all the Ital options.

There's the vegan lodge on Grenada and Taymer's vegan guide to the islands is here: caribbeanvegan.wordpress.com/vacation-pages/vegan-guide-to-the-islands . Taymer also has another page about visiting Barbados and one about going to Saba.

Thanks for the tips, my and fiance both love food so it would be a real bummer to have food option hassles on our weddingmoon. I've been doing a bit of research on islands only recently, but I've kind of had my heart set on St Lucia just cause it seems more romantic.

Anyone have any experience there? There is one resort that has a vegetarian restaurant but we can't really afford a place that costs $500/night min.

Can't you eat at the restaurant even if you're not at the resort?

I thought St Lucia was pretty much super-expensive everywhere though $500 a night seems pretty steep

Yep, Im sure we could eat there without being a guest. We plan to stay at whatever island location we decide on for close to 2 weeks though, so a location with decent options out and about would be good.

I suspect we will be just fine, and hotels can accommodate our eating habits if needed.. we just don't want to be disappointed. We have had many bizarre incidents where people do not seem to understand the full meaning of vegetarian.

I'm going to Monteverde and Montezuma in Costa Rica, can anyone recommend places to eat or how I should plan on ordering? What food I should bring with me? I don't know any spanish and likely won't learn much before I go. The rest of my family are omni's and somehow were somewhat confused by my saying I'd still be vegan down there. I'm confused by them.
