Hey PPK!

Do you (or any of the vegans you know and could put me in touch with) speak any of the following languages: Albanian, Belarusian, Bosnian, Bulgarian, Czech, Estonian, Hungarian, Icelandic, Latvian, Lithuanian, Macedonian, Maltese, Norwegian, Polish, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Slovak, Slovenian, Turkish or Ukrainian?

I’m working on a zine to help people read ingredient labels and work out which products are vegan whilst they're travelling in Europe and whilst I've done the initial translations I'd love someone who speaks the language to look over them and check that they make sense. I've already had help from some lovely PPKers (thank you!) and I'd super appreciate any more help you guys can give me.

I could put you in contact with vegan-friendly people who speak Hungarian, Lithuanian, Polish, (maybe Romanian) Russian or Turkish if you like. One person per language. PM me your email address if you're interested.

I could put you in touch with a vegan-leaning Slovak and an omni Macedonian. Maybe a few others, let me think...

I don't know vegans in particular but if you have any leftovers that you can't find anyone for, i can help you look in some dusty corners of the translation communities for the really tough ones. let me know.

Thank you! I will definitely keep that in mind. I have no current leads on Albanian, Ukrainian and a couple of others that I can't remember right now.

I know an omni (who is veg-curious) who speaks Serbian, if you can't find any vegans who speak it!

Hey y'all! I'm still working on this from Thailand!

I never heard back from my Belarusian, Bosnian, Czech, Danish, Finnish, Icelandic, Norwegian and Slovenian speakers and I haven't found anyone who can help with Albanian, Bulgarian, Estonian, Greek, Latvian, Macedonian, Maltese, Slovak or Ukranian. I would love it if anyone could help or put me in contact with anyone who may be able to help!

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you, I had to think for a bit about how I could approach it- most of my professional profile is in places where the words "volunteer" and "translator" cannot ever be put together, pain of death. Everything has to be paid and most people have a minimum fee, you don't want to go there. But there is one place where I can advertise this sort of project, and even if there is a token fee, I would be willing to stand it for you (i think it is one of those cases where if you offer it, they will say "no, no need" but you have to offer it).
I would need a short description of the project that I could publish on an online network place (like LinkedIn for translators), I would use my account for contact and forward you what I get. I also need to know how many words are involved for each language (if they are all around 50 words, for example, I will just publish that, but I will need the specific word breakdown for each language if people contact me). There seem to be a lot of veg translators, so I think we might find some sympathy.

Oh man! I should have checked this forum weeks ago. I know a Finnish vegan here in Belgium. I'll contact her and see if she is interested and is cool with me putting you guys in touch.

That would be great lepelaar, thank you!

Torque! I'm so sorry I missed your last message, you're amazing. I am indeed living it up in a tropical paradise! I'm in Laos right now and it's gorgeous and I keep using my limited wifi to lurk in the relationship thread like some kinda creep. Ooops! I'll be in touch via PM or E-Mail this week to work out how we can do this.

Edited to add: I just counted and there are 32 words.

I have a Maltese friend who'd be happy to look at it, if you like - not vegan, but veggie.

That would be seriously awesome RR! I'm leaving a small town for a big city in about an hour so hopefully I'll have good enough wifi to send the Maltese page over. If you get a change PM me your email address & if not I'll PM it to ya.

Okay, so I've been over the list and the languages I have no current leads on are... Albanian, Bosnian, Bulgarian, Estonian, Icelandic, Latvian, Macedonian, Norwegian, Slovak, Slovenian and Ukrainian.

The translator doesn't need to be vegan, do they? I might be able to find a Ukranian to help, and I could make some enquiries about Slovakia and Slovenia.

Thank you! And nope, ideally I wanted them to be veggie just because some of the words (cochineal, carmine etc) aren't words everyone would be familiar with but I'm happy to accept help from anyone!

I've just found someone Estonian for you as well! Let me know how you want to proceed with that. I'll check on the other nationalities at work tomorrow.

Just to update, I'm still waiting to hear from my Finnish contact. It looks like she hasn't checked her messages since I contacted her.
