Reviving this one as I'm off to Rome for a few days with work. I won't have a lot of free time but are there any must-visit places for food? Or things to do - especially in the evenings?

Beyond that thread linked above, both Esme and myself went to Italy in the last couple years.

This is the thread I had
viewtopic.php?f=59&t=30757

I didn't see that Esme posted anything specific about Rome.

I don't know about Scotland, but I found Italy to be similar to other European areas I had been to in that people are out and about until late. We ate early compared to most people in restaurants, early meaning before 9pm.

If you are ok with splurging, Il Margutta is a must eat and I'd highly recommend Ristorante Taverna Vegetariana. We were boring in general in that we just walked around in the evenings.
