Hey ppk! I am going to Ecuador for 8-9 days in January, and was wondering if any of you knew what types of dishes are generally vegan? I am going on a G-Adventures tour, so I'll be moving around a lot and am not sure what my options in the towns will be. Thanks :)

Rice, fries, most ensalada (some have mayonnaise). Don't trust the soup, they will say it is sin carne/pollo/etc but that often means they cooked it with a bone and you don't actually get any of the meat! If you or the guide have good enough spanish, some of the soups are vegan but it is rare.

I mostly ate as much of the almuerzo and cena (set lunch and set dinner) as possible because it is easier and cheaper... or I was eating more international food in Quito and BaƱos. I'm traveling solo so I am left to my own spanish and devices and some places have very few options. With a group you'll probably not end up at the hole in the wall places I go!

Enjoy Ecuador! I loved it!
